Sorry for the vanity - I know we need to crack down on them and fill up the tank, but this needs to be said.
All you FReepers worried about Sens. Murkowski, Romney, and Collins (and probably add Thune and Toomey to the mix, they're wildcards) need to chill. Enjoy the show, as a certain letter of the alphabet has said.
These statements put out by the aforementioned Senators are completely non-binding. They are simply designed to quell some of the Left's anger and soothe passions as the nation mourns RBG. I even wish Trump hadn't said anything about a replacement until at least Tuesday.
Mitch and Trump has been prepared for this exact moment. Already, Pelosi has overplayed her hand to the point where she's being denounced by Rahm Emmanuel himself. The never let a crisis go to waste guy, is out there condemning Pelosi.
Other people who have completely overplayed their hand are the Left's foot soldiers in the media and Hollywood. If there's going to be violence, or hateful comments, especially against ACB, who is a married mother of 7 including a Down's Syndrome child and 2 adopted kids from Haiti, it will backfire on the Left.
Before the hearings (Personally, they should hold a floor vote for ACB, she has already had Senate hearings in 2017) even begin, Mitch is going to read the RINOs the riot act. They are going to be told in no uncertain terms that they have nothing to lose by voting to confirm Trump's nominee. You think the Left is going to stop targeting Collins if she caves? Hell no. Her Senate seat is the #1 target for the Dems.
So, Collins in the end is going to vote to confirm Trump's nominee. Again, her statement is just porn for the liberal media to muse as they report about how "Republicans are distancing themselves from Trump's radical nominee." Collins is going to look at the riots, the threats of violence, and no doubt the smearing of ACB by the Left, and with being chewed out by Mitch, will come to realize that voting for Trump's nominee will light the base on fire and those conservatives who were on the fence will come out to vote for her re-election, while the leftist agitators targeting her will be completely demoralized.
Murkowski is up for re-election in 2022. It's been rumored that Sarah Palin may challenge her. If she votes to confirm, that immediately kills Sarah's chances, because the base will support her for supporting Trump's nominee.
Romney will likely vote no, but optics are the key here. His vote is not needed and it'll be neutralized by a Manchin vote anyway.
So let's not hit the panic button here. I believe these RINOs will fall in line because they will be completely on the outskirts if they don't.
I've known some very intelligent and wise people who studied at Ivy League universities and some real morons too. Furthermore, many colleges are equal or better an those--Stanford, Duke, Texas, UNC, UVa come immediately to mind. And the most financially successful people in America generally didn't attend such schools.
It's dolts like the anti-Trump bigmouths who are impressed with the Ivy League--and other affectations.
But are they movin and a-groovin?
= = = =
She and Biden think they are :-)
I will add this.
Any R that at any point opposes or slows this process or votes against Ts nominee, should be reassigned to the Senate Select Special Subcommittee for Cleaning Shitters until such time as Jesus makes his final return.
So if the election is a mess, I can't count on Roberts. In fact, I would prefer Kennedy over Roberts.
“I was thinking today that the conservatives have NEVER had a woman on the court. We are way past time. The only woman added to the court by an R royally screwed us with abortion.”

Granted she wasn’t exactly “conservative,” but Sandra Day O’Connor was the first female SCOTUS Justice, appointed by Reagan. She ended up being a swing vote.
Perhaps for NEXT opening at USSC. There are more to come in the next 4 years—I promise you
Agree with this. If something important goes before SCOTUS, the left will pull his string.
“Mitch should of had all these fools in line..and marching with the right message.”.
How do you know he didn’t have them lined up?????
Mitch and Trump had this planned long ago because they knew she could die at any time.
+ 10
So what do we do? The Left steals the election in either Michigan or Pennsylvania. But we can't turn to the Supreme Court with Roberts in charge.
I agree with you. She died just at the right time and there is a purpose for that.
Agreed. Collins career will end if she fails to confirm a good nominee this week
Lindsey Graham said he would not let the hearing get out of control on his watch. I kind of believe him. He was so disgusted by the Kavanaugh hearings. Maybe he will be strong this time.
“I think it more likely that Murkowski votes present to try to stay on the fence rather than prove she is on the dark side.”
i think they need 51 even if everyone else were to abstain - but I’m not sure.
Correct. An abstention is effectively the same as a no vote.
Yes, Trump went to Wharton, which, as you know, is University of Pennsylvania's business school. Penn is technically in the Ivy League, which is just an athletic league, but is generally considered a second tier Ivy League school where it comes to admissions and academics. It's probably equivalent to University of Virginia, Georgetown University or University of Michigan. That said, the Wharton business school is top-notch.
Trump is successful because he knows most problems have fairly simple solutions. He does not analyze things into unknown. That's probably the benefit of a business degree and a life spent in business as opposed to most of the eggheads who infect government.
Incidentally, I work in a field where my peers are highly educated. I've worked with people who attended Harvard, Yale, Columbia, etc. Of the three most talented people I've worked with in my career, two were University of Maryland graduates and the third did not finish high school. The whole, "I went to an Ivy League school" business is, frankly, crap.
yeah, as I said.
Have been asking several places. Trying to find some answers. One of both of the women at the top of the SCOTUS list have recently gone thru senate confirmation hearings for federal judicial positions.
I vaguely remember various other people being switched from one position to another without a new hearing being required. Is this true for this position too? If your hearing for a judicial position is recent (2017ish) must you go before the judicial committee again or can you just be called/sent to the senate floor for a vote ?
Graham was not the chairman of the committee for Kavanaugh. He had limited power. Grassley did get the job done as chairman during Kavanaugh, but he seemed like a doddering old fool and let things get out of control.
I agree with your analysis.
