More Than Half of American Voters Support Breaking up Big Tech Companies, a New Poll Finds

More than half of American voters strongly or somewhat support breaking up Silicon Valley tech giants to promote competition, according to a poll published Thursday.

Only 26% of voters oppose or strongly oppose splitting up the country’s largest tech companies, while 19% of those surveyed didn’t offer a view, a poll from progressive think tank Data for Progress showed. The poll, which surveyed 1,200 likely voters in September, comes as the House lawmakers conclude their nearly yearlong probe into the industry’s supposed anticompetitive behavior.

In the same poll, roughly 60% of respondents expressed support for a prompt on smartphones asking users which search engine they’d prefer rather than a service provider using Google as a default.

Google plans to introduce a choice screen in March for Android’s European users in an effort to settle the European Commission’s complaint that the company’s business model violates antitrust principles, Android announced in June. The company has yet to release data detailing whether users are selecting other search engines over Google, Politico reported Thursday...

Go ahead, they’ll just reconglomerate. That is the nature of business. GROW. Like kudzu.

No, instead, remove the regulations that are harder or impossible for smaller companies to bear.

Removing regulations and taxes should always be the first approach, before thinking about adding them.

The big corporations have armies of accountants, lawyers, lobbyists, publicists, and influencers, that smaller corporations can’t afford. They are all dedicated to wiping out competition before it happens.

1/2 of American voters dont have a pot to pee in and dont have a clue how it all works.
As them all about the ATT Consent Decree and how all that worked out & who was Judge Greene, again they wont have a clue.

So, we’re just going to invite the government to be in charge of all businesses? We can ask their permission for anything we want to do?

Furthermore tech companies should not be allowed to own media companies, or newspapers.

If the Harris-Biden ticket wins we will have full-blown communism with the government owning all the companies and consolidating them into huge monopolies.

That’ll just mean that their meetings with prominent democrats will need more seats at the conference table. What needs to happen is they get shut down for their unfair bias.

Go ahead, they’ll just reconglomerate.

Yes, but it will take 30 years, like it did with AT&T.

No it won’t. It’ll take 5 years tops. These are all acquisition based companies that buy close to a company a month. They’ll just buy other companies in the same space as stuff they were broken off of. Probably trading them around. Google will buy stuff Amazon was forced to get rid of, Amazon will buy stuff Google had to get rid of.

Or, even more likely, during the years all this is winding its way through court they’ll move Curacao or one of the other “finance haven” countries and tell the American government to suck it.

Every time the government meddles in the market, the consumers take it in the shorts. Prices go up, etc. One of the Joe Hiden ads running here in south central PA is his vow to make fat cat corporations “pay their fair share” of taxes. Except that corporations don’t PAY taxes. They do send more money to DC for the Hiden-ites to squander; but they also raise prices to cover their loss. So the consumer ACTUALLY pays the extra taxes. I’m amazed that in this day and age, consumers still aren’t wise to that.
