We Protestants certainly have a problem when it comes to Maryso allergic are we to any sign of Marian devotion that we flip out and run the other way at any sign of it, including thoroughly orthodox phrases like Mother of God and Hail Mary, full of grace.
The first phrase is of course part of the touchstone of orthodoxy the Definition of Chalcedon, and is the proper translation of Theotokosthe preferred Protestant version (for those who even bother to recite it) is God-bearer, ... To call Mary the Mother of God was a truth that many Christians actually gave their blood and their lives to defend, and yet we Protestants have casually tossed it aside because it sounds icky and Catholic.
Likewise, the first part of the Ave Maria is of course straight from the Gospel of Luke: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you . Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
For almost as long as the Church has existed, it has held Mary in a place of special honour, and seen fit to show that honour liturgically. No doubt Marian devotion has taken many harmful forms, but should we not defer to the consensus of many centuries of Christians that some kind of Marian devotion is appropriate and desirable? Therefore we should seek to engage, together with Catholics, Orthodox, Anglo-Catholics, and long centuries of Christian practice, in whatever forms of Marian devotion that are not necessarily heretical, idolatrous, or what have you, and try to assume the best of forms that seem dubious or ambiguous.

If Mary was not immaculately conceived, the Atonement is a fraud.
+1
Mary had the most justification of anyone in history for being a single mom. God could have protected her and accomplish what he needed done. However, it was important to God that his son have an earthly father. If an earthy father for his son was so important to God, shouldn’t that be telling us something?
Oy vey.
Here we go.
In long after the gnashing off teeth over Mary.
Bingo.
I cant look away, though, and not argue. At least when I see others righteously denouncing others, which frankly on FR, is mostly mocking Catholics.
It tells us women need covering
Pointing out errors not supported by Scripture isn't mocking but more like a correction. There is a difference between Mother of Jesus and Mother of God. God has no mother. The human side of Jesus did, the divine side did not. All of the wildly absurd attributes ascribed to Mary by the RCC gets what derision they deserve. Mary deserves to be honored but recognized she needed a Savior just like everyone else.
Ahhh Nestrorianism! just another heresy
According to the RCC. God has the final say so.
You are right about Joseph as far as not getting credit. Indeed, he actually himself must have been honored to have been chosen by God to raise a son not his, per se.
However, I always suspect much of this anti-Mary stuff is mostly sexism. After all, for a normal woman being pregnant and birthing is highly risky and very difficult, much less any time before the last half century. And it is not as if she does nothing besides birth him. Trust me.
I use mock loosely.
What I mean ultimately is people casting stones that Catholics are some kind of evil for venerating someone who was holy.
Sorry, but in all the threads Ive seen over many years, thats exactly my read. Some mocking, much condemnation as if they need execution. It really gets evil, and sorry, I see no need for that.
“It tells us women need covering”
Doesn’t it also tell us children need fathers, particularly boys?
full of grace does not mean more graces than anyone else. And where do you get the outlandish idea that He lived as a slave to Mary for 30 years? In fact the. i is quotes several times He rebuked her. Worship and honor God and Him alone. Mary can of hear your prayers or save you from anything
Yes and IMS so was Jude. Following His resurrection and ascension I would gather his family minus maybe one were at the Upper Room when the Holy Spirit descended into them all the Day of Pentecost. He does that ya know, with believers.
Then keep denying Mary herself and the Scripture.
NONSENSE.
More fraud nonsense
Absolutely
reqrdless of how twisted Catholic Chruch reasoning is to promote the worship of a mortal woman blessed among all women.
...............................................
The Catholic Church promotes the worship only of the Holy Trinity. The Church encourages the veneration of Mary and all other saints. Worship and veneration are not synonymous. If you get your facts straight before you post, you can avoid embarrassing yourself!
because Roman Catholics are grotesquely negligent in pointing out that there is nothing divine about Mary.
............................................
You should be ashamed to be posting such obvious nonsense!
