During a moment of solidarity during the season opener, players, managers, and coaches on the Giants and Dodgers kneeled together while holding a black cloth before the national anthem. All but one.
San Francisco reliever Sam Coonrod was the only person on either club who did not kneel during the moment used to support the Black Lives Matter movement. Photos below:
he reason why? His Christian faith.
After the game, Coonrod said because of his Christian faith he cant kneel before anything besides God. He also said he does not agree with everything he has heard about the Black Life Matter movement.
Im a Christian, like I said, and I just cant get on board with a couple of things that I have read about Black Lives Matter. How they lean towards Marxism and theyve said some negative things about the nuclear family, Coonrod said, per NBC Sports Bay Area. I just cant get on board with that.
He also said that he cant kneel before anything besides God.
For the teams part, manager Gabe Kapler who not only knelt for the BLM moment but also during the national anthem said he respected Coonrods decision to opt out.
The one thing that we said is we were going to let people express themselves, Kapler said. We were going to give them the choice on whether they were going to stand, kneel or do something else. That was a personal decision for Sam. If you missed it, the MLB provided teams with a long piece of black fabric to signify unity before its Opening Day games on Thursday. Video below:

Coonrods remarks about the Black Lives Matter movement resembled those of Sen. Kelly Loeffler, R-Georgia, co-owner of the WNBA Atlanta Dream, when she said on Fox News in July that BLM is based on Marxist principles and doesnt support the nuclear family.
How soon before refusing to kneel is considered a hate crime?
Grade school peer pressure hits the mainstream.
He will be released soon.
If Kaepernick was some how “courageous”, this guy is orders of magnitude above.
How dArE yOu!
Exactly. Eventually, if you don’t take a knee, you’ll be forced to your knees and have a machete taken to your throat.
His name is COONrod...he’ll be charged as a racist soon Just for that
I’ve a T-shirt that states: Stand For The Flag Kneel At The Cross.
I’ve a T-shirt that states: Stand For The Flag Kneel At The Cross.
GOD BLESS HIM!! He will be CRUCIFIED.....Prayers for him.
"If the world hates you, you must realize that it hated me before it hated you."
"If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you do not belong to the world, because my choice of you has drawn you out of the world, that is why the world hates you."
“...His name is COONrod...hell be charged as a racist soon Just for that”
Either that, or they’ll suggest that his name means that there is some tendency within his family for carnal relations with raccoons...
(You just KNOW that the alpha males back on the schoolyard playground made him eat LOTS of sand for that very reason, back in the day)
Too bad his sport is going to eventually be attacked by BLM... after they use it as much as they can for publicity.
Beyond that, the number of people watching is waaaay down. Opening day was last night and I did not watch a moment of it b/c of the kneeling to marxism and America hatred. I can’t be the only one. It’s nba, nfl, now mlb.
High school sports still is fun and in my neck of the woods you stand for the anthem or you don’t play. Respect is an important team attribute - if you don’t have it, you’re a detriment to the team.
Well, the mlb, the nfl and the nba better start cutting back those huge salaries because the fans are NOT coming back!
They have kneeled themselves into the grave.
"Blessed are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak all kinds of calumny against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; this is how they persecuted the prophets before you."
“He will be released soon.”
If I were a betting person, I’d bet that you’re correct.
How quickly our values change. Only a couple of years ago it was the keeler who was castigated, today it’s the lonely guy who stands up.
And even he didn’t admit to do it out of respect for the flag but for his religion.
Another “Coonrod”, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNW-52UtsqM
Good to know MLB has at least one man willing to stand up courageously.
