You cannot explain it. Pure unadulterated misery in every corner. It’s a million times worse than you could fathom. The most singularly depressing town in the entire universe. And if you know anyone who enjoys it here, that tells you just how far disconnected they are from the rest of our nation. There is nothing here except misery and functionaries, human robots, carrying through with their duties without any idea why.
When I say this is a lifeless soulless place. You must imagine my new context to really understand it. Staying in a hotel with only one, perhaps a handful, of other guest(s) is a rather remarkable sense of living amid COVID-19 misery in real life.
Yes, it’s like a living example of The Shining, sans the death-knock of the twins in the middle of the night. That is correct. Trump International DC – and NO GUESTS. It’s a desolate, depressing, empty dystopian hotel nightmare hidden from all normal people in America including me. I had no idea the metastasized rot had already spread to the central nervous system. Eric needs to consider selling this place, and fast.
Restaurants closed. Everything closed. Lights out. DARK. Want to eat, go to the grocery store and hope for bologna and some bread. Everything on television/internet is disconnected from reality. I know, I’m here.
From what I can tell the DC mayor has targeted her closures in a manner as to inflict the maximum damage on Trump properties and holdings. I would estimate Trump International DC is bleeding around $100k per day currently/ perhaps more… depending on how much air conditioning they shut down.
DC as a whole is the same. An 8:00pm walk and you see nothing… a city completely devoid of life…. no cars… no people… nothing. A few rats scurrying from sidewalk to planter shelf, and a few scooters laying sideways in the middle of the sidewalk with ever dimming green circles as the batteries pulsate and run out.
I mean this town is dead.
The word misery is so far removed from the depressed stares amid the soulless eyes, that it would take a thousand years of bliss for a glimmer of hope to reappear. This place is an abhorrent Potemkin village of what appears on the nightly news about it.
This is my first visit as a non-tourist. So I am able to see the people who are attempting to manage their way through this nightmare. It is far, far worse than anything you can imagine.
Be thankful for your local debate about schools opening, wearing masks and assorted nuance. This is not that.
This town is the hollowed carcass of a cockroach still moving from the maggots that have taken the remaining source of nutrition. Every eye behind the mask shows misery, fear, and disconnection from the world we know… you know.
It’s bizarre and even though I have been here many times before, this time I simply cannot describe it adequately. DC is lost. Lost not because it has fallen ill to some COVID-19 infection, but literally lost to the premise of our nation’s capital.
There are no people here. There are robots trying to reach the charging stations.
For the first time in my life I’m not sure I want President Trump to win another term. Who in their right mind would wish this on anyone.

I covered an event there in 2009 and was surprised at how dead DC was after 7 PM or so.
Sundance is a former Democrat who also has happened to be wrong about a lot of things. He can be depressed all he wants. We all are. NYC is back to 1970’s era misery, Murphy here in NJ is an abject Dictator. Wolf is no better in PA. Californians must be miserable. Seattle and Portland are falling apart, as is Chicago and Minneapolis. The alternative is to have the entire country like this for a long time.
I do get frustrated with Trump’s handling of this mostly because I want my life to go back to normal. But I don’t know what he can do. He’s fighting a Civil War with Democratic governors, the military is subversive, his own Party except for a few are abject cowards. But the real problem is the stupidity of the American people. They are brainwashed, scared beyond belief and there is no talking to large segments of the population who are all for masks and continued shutdowns and want to keep their kids home. I have no idea what the outcome of this is for the country but I do know that the thought of turning things over to Biden and his handlers with Pelosi and Schumer running things in Congress will only end this country once and for all.

#1. I can see my old office from here. It’s empty, our new building is literally empty and I’m out of a job after 28 years.
Guess what people? I’m no longer saving you, the taxpayer, millions, tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions of dollars that would be needed to clean up the environment because I was able to document who serious polluters were (i.e. not the government).
Thanks Obama, Biden, Xi, Wash. Post, NYT, etc. Rats “run wild in the streets” and politicians get paid for during nothing, but we don’t have jobs. That’s what’s wrong in a Democrat run/ruined city.
I’ve observed this for a long time. The US Congress has morphed into a wholly removed, disinterested, dismissive and delusional cult, bearing absolutely NO resemblance to what a representative governing body ought to be.
The MSM has locked them in an inescapable echo chamber, where the only thing Congress hears or listens to, is their own hype! Of course they are lost!
It also explains how they are always blindsided by facts that any guy on the street knows before and better than his/her elected ‘official’.
Too bad none of them cares enough to revisit the Constitution.... the owners, manual for a ‘Republic’. Any Congressman worth the name, should have committed it to memory LONG AGO.

Read through SD article including lots of comments...made me realize that I will have to Re-DOUBLE my prayer time lifting up our president!! I’ve been praying for God to send us divine instructions as to how to fight these despicable EVIL DC swamp monsters! Remember the Bible story how God used Gideon! God told him to go to war and not to be afraid because he would fought the battle for him! All God wants is for us to take that first step of faith and he will do the rest! The question is how to go about it?

That vote is precisely what would be expected due to the fact that D.C. has TWO of the major sectors of the population that will ALWAYS support whichever candidate for office is the staunchest proponent of the tyrannical power BIG GOVERNMENT: Government employees and “citizens of color”!
It sounds to me like this would be a perfect time to move the government to a much nicer place. Leave the District of Columbia for museums and monuments. Move all of Congress to a more central location. I’m thinking Nebraska.

I was born and I grew up here, in the city. D.C. has always been subdued type of place.

I too was born, lived, and worked in DC for a total of 68 years. The week I retired I sold my home and headed for a recently purchased farm in the mountains 150 miles to the west. But it never occurred to me that D.C. was an overly subdued type of place, so I find your perspective fascinating!
