Video: Virtual Signing – Virginia’s Governor Signs Law Allowing Undocumented Immigrants To Get Driver’s Licenses

Back in February Virginia passed legislation that could give nearly 270,000 undocumented immigrants living in Virginia the opportunity to drive passed each chamber of the General Assembly.

Bills passed in the House with a 57-42 vote and in the Senate with a 22-18 vote.

The so-called ‘Licenses for All’ bills allow immigrants to get a driver privilege card (essentially a temporary license) regardless of their legal status.

Previously, Virginia law required anyone applying for a driver’s license to provide proof of a “legal presence” to show you are legally authorized to be in the country.

Yesterday it was officially signed into law by Governor Ralph Northam.

He held a virtual signing Monday to celebrate the legislation that gives the Department of Motor Vehicles permission to issue driver privilege cards to undocumented immigrants living in Virginia beginning January 1, 2021.

“In addition to giving members of Virginia’s immigrant community the ability to legally drive a vehicle, this driver privilege card legislation will make obtaining valid identification accessible to all Virginia residents, regardless of their immigration status,” Gov. Northam wrote Monday.

Sen. Surovell and Del. Kathy Tran, who introduced the House version of the bill, joined Northam during the call.

This bill now goes into effect on January 1, 2021.

Since your licenses are essentially worthless as proof of ID for security verification, such as flying, you will probably all have to go through the process of verifying your citizenship for addon to your driving license, as millions of us had to do in MD

...good point....and if there are any tests, are they only in English or do they have to be taken in the native language of the applicant...? and what about road tests...? do they still require those or have they been labeled racist or something and have been done away with....?? I mean, after all, every road sign is in English and that might make some applicant(s) feel bad about themselves if they can’t understand what “STOP” and “YIELD” mean....and, gosh, we can’t have that, can we...??

Can we sue to get back the time and money spent getting our POSITIVE ID licenses? Does this action render them useless for the reason we HAD to change?

The drivers license is the de facto national identity card. It is required for opening accounts and voting. By doing this, they are deliberately and intentionally granting virtual citizenship, which is as good as real citizenship.

I am of the opinion that the Virginia’s drivers license should no longer be acceptable as ID by the federal government.
