Until last week, Gary Garrels was senior curator of painting and sculpture at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). He resigned his position after museum employees circulated a petition that accused him of racism and demanded his immediate ouster. "Gary's removal from SFMOMA is non-negotiable," read the petition. "Considering his lengthy tenure at this institution, we ask just how long have his toxic white supremacist beliefs regarding race and equity directed his position curating the content of the museum?"

No, lots of other people have produced art...and SFMOMA was totally on top of it. So was the DeYoung and the Palace of the Legion of Honor...
Much of the collection, but certainly not all of it, was from the European-American tradition (which includes Spaniards and Italians). So I guess we’re no longer allowed to paint? Or even exist?
I’m waiting for them to attack the Asian Art Museum there in SF. Which they will.
There has been much internal bickering at the museum thanks to a single black employee. It has now spread to museums elsewhere in the Bay Area. As for the San Francisco museum, “Powerful board members include Charles Schwab, one of the country’s most prolific Donald Trump donors, as well as other beneficiaries of military and police contracts.”
“Won’t the walls be somewhat bare?”
Nah, it’ll all be covered with graffiti, which will be the only acceptable form of “art”.

My bet: The museum paid him to go away and he took the money and ran, after signing a handy non-disclosure agreement to protect that worthless excuse for a museum’s hind end.
