Progressing the Declaration of Independence

Leftist citizens of the world are uncomfortable at the sight of unabashed and self-confident patriots celebrating the founding of a nation dedicated to undeniable truths. Tough. Let the micro-aggressions roll as we stand athwart the progressive junking of all that is good and decent.

On our nation’s 150th anniversary in 1926, Republican president Calvin Coolidge gave a speech in which he responded to the progressive wave that was muddying the minds of the nation. Only thirteen years after the passage of the destructive 16th and 17th Amendments, Coolidge deftly reminded Americans not to discard principles that had served the nation and the world so well since 1776. Highlights:

• The Declaration is the preeminent support for free government around the world.

• We celebrate the American Revolution because it represents the convictions of an independent, liberty loving, God-fearing people who knew their rights and had the courage to maintain them.

• Our institutions subsequent to the Declaration have stood the test of time. They have advanced civilization.

• Take time to turn off the noise of partisan politics and find solace and consolation in our two great charters of freedom, the Declaration and Constitution. Together, they will always provide adequate defense from all dangers.

• The Declaration is the outward manifestation of the desire of all men to be free.

• Like no other revolutionary movement in history before or since, not only did the Declaration liberate a people, it ennobled humanity.

Much of the damage to the original Constitution has been self inflicted by the amendments added. On the one hand the amendments added by the Republicans after their victory in the First Democrat-Republican War were needed to mend the original sin of slavery. Those amendments have done their job but unleashed a monstrous growth of Federal power that is now used by collectivists to attack liberty.

If Article V ever happens simply repealing these amendments would go a long way to restoring the Republic.

Happy Independence Day!!

And we ARE independent.

Let’s keep it that way.

I am going to spend a part of today doing something I have Never Done Before.

Read the Entire Declaration of Independence and all of the amendments.

I know, but better late than never.

Enjoy the day!

When the states appointed senators we were safe from the additional powers of the 13th-15th Amendments granted to congress .

The 17th Amendment did to federalism what the 13th Amendment did to slavery. Both are long-gone vestiges of our framing era. Tenth Amendment? States’ rights? Poof, and not only long-gone but neither slavery nor federalism can possibly return without repeal of their respective amendments.

A Different Take on Federalism Part I

Yes, very good point, an amendment banning baseline budgeting, mandating a balanced budget based always on the gold standard would be nice as well.

Thanks for all of your great work, Jacquerie.

From July 4, 1776 to July 4, 2020, this is what we have become.

Thanks PG. Sorry for the late response. We moved to a new home last week and just today cleared up some on and off again internet issues with our new phone company. I’ve missed FR!
