How Much Longer Will MLK’s Statue Stand?
National Review ^ | June 12, 2020 | John Hirschauer

In 1957, Ebony magazine invited Martin Luther King, Jr. — then a civil-rights upstart known for leading the Montgomery Bus Boycotts — to write a monthly advice column. King agreed. In 1958, a young reader asked him the following question:

My problem is different from the ones most people have. I am a boy, but I feel about boys the way I ought to feel about girls. I don’t want my parents to know about me. What can I do? Is there any place where I can go for help?

The King of our popular imagination may have told the boy that there was nothing wrong with his feelings, that his inclinations were part of the human experience, that anyone who told him otherwise was on the Wrong Side of History. But for all the popular hagiographies, King was a real person, and answered as any Christian minister in 1957 would:

This is a good question in light of how quickly irrationality is spreading.

I think it can actually be argued that, at this point, for the Left not to tear down MLK statues they would be behaving irrationality.

I just wrote this on another thread, but think it is pertinent here as well -

MLK was a flawed man like all of us, but his message was and will remain critical to our nations history and I believe it was a divinely inspired message. A sober society would compare his words then to those of Al Sharpton this week. Reverend Al, as usual, was all about himself. MLK spoke about a dream for his people. A dream for all people.

MLK was a Republican. The party that fought for equality for all. He remains one of the most influential Republicans in American history even though 9 out of 10 Americans do not know this because it is not taught in schools.

What would MLK think today?

I believe he would lambast today’s black leaders (appointed by a democrat media) much as Jesus stormed the temple overthrowing the tables of the money-changers and rebuking them. I also think he would call out abortion (the holy grail of democrat politics), not racism, as the biggest threat and sin against black Americans.

Sharpton is a democrat. The party that promises to fight every 4 years for black Americans and does nothing.

I have often said it would be incredibly powerful to see the contrast between then and today in a movie format and let the viewer decide.

I hate to tell you this but we need a few white gangs brave enough to tear down MLK statues.

A petition to remove a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Leicester has received nearly 5,000 signatures.

The online petition accuses the Indian independence campaigner of being “a fascist, racist and sexual predator”.

Boston is petitioning to take down a Lincoln statue because it shows a slave in chains. I’m waiting for them to go after Stone Mountain and Mount Rushmore. As soon as GA gets a democrat governor (I know in Stacy’s mind they have one now) the carvings will be defaced/removed with all of the enforcement power of the state government.

Rushmore will be trickier, but it’s on a list too.

This is an important question because it highlights the soon to emerge frayed edges of this new movement. It might be somewhat unified now, but its differences of opinion are temporarily suspended due all the excitement.

It a week, people of differing opinions and philosophies will begin to clash. As we all know, they were not really rebelling against America and its institutions because Black Lives Matter. That was only an excuse...a match that lit the fuse.

Without an actual unifying cause, separate tribes will start to coagulate. And they won't like each other.

This is what happens when an insurrection is based on a wobbly foundation.

Turn on MLK? I don't see it happening.

The party that unabashedly donned knee pads for Slick Willy? That voted unceasingly for the Chappaquiddick U-boat commander? The party that unflinchingly supports the Tara Reade groper?

Dems are masters at hypocrisy and turning a blind eye to their hero's faults.

They've got a lot invested in the MLK myth, they won't let the truth stand in their way.

his statue offends me, I guess that give me not only the right, but the duty to take a sledgehammer to it.

You are correct about the Democrats, but Antifa will turn on MLK imho.

King talked about CHARACTER as the defining issue, not that he really had that much in personal life. That alone will be enough to cancel him.

Malcolm X would be disgusted with the blacks of today; he would spit and walk away in disgust.
