A Second Major COVID-19 Study Is Retracted; First the Lancet, Now the New England Journal of Medicine

First, the highly respected Lancet medical journal retracted a major study about hydroxychloroquine. And now, the esteemed New England Journal of Medicine has yanked another study, this one concerning COVID-19 and blood pressure drugs.

Both studies relied on data supplied by a U.S. analytics company called Surgisphere.

“A Guardian investigation can reveal the US-based company Surgisphere, whose handful of employees appear to include a science fiction writer and an adult-content model, has provided data for multiple studies on Covid-19 co-authored by its chief executive, but has so far failed to adequately explain its data or methodology,” The Guardian reported.

"A peer-reviewed Lancet study claimed that Surgisphere culled data from nearly 15,000 COVID-19 patients from 1,200 hospitals around the world. There is no evidence that it collected any data from anyone."

The study by Lancet, a British company, said the anti-malarial drugs hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, both of which have been touted by President Trump as a coronavirus treatment, were not only ineffective but possible deadly. Lancet said in the May 22 study that patients who used those druges were more likely to show an irregular heart rhythm—a known side effect thought to be rare—and were more likely to die in the hospital.

Within days, some large trials of the drugs were halted. But after the Lancet retraction, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced it would resume trials of the drugs.

As for the study in the New England Journal of Medicine, published on 1 May, said that taking certain blood pressure drugs, including angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, didn’t appear to increase the risk of death among COVID-19 patients, as some researchers had suggested. But after questions about Surgisphere, the journal has retracted the study.

“It is now clear to me that in my hope to contribute to this research during a time of great need, I did not do enough to ensure that the data source was appropriate for this use,” said Harvard’s Mandeep Mehra, who was the lead author of both studies. “For that, and for all the disruptions—both directly and indirectly — I am truly sorry.”

So, what are we to do with the one who wrote the paper that was published and who lied about the data he collected?

Do we just let him go with a slap on the wrist?

This was the paper that MAJOR COUNTRIES like France relied on to ban the use of Hydroxychloroquine for treating Covid-19 !!

I’d rather trust an “adult content model” (if that’s what I think it is, smile smile) than at least half the Quacks with MD’s (and 99% of the “adult content models” who are in politics these days, ha!)

It was the mad rush to discredit a president by the usual suspects.

The credibility of countless institutions in 4 short years has been irreparably destroyed. They did it to themselves.

Fauci is another BS artist that loves to hear himself talk. he bought into all of it hook line and sinker.

You can’t believe a damned thing from these people anymore.

And that's it?
How about we look for a very strong tree and some rope? Thousands have died needlessly because they got denied HCQ for no reason.

Fake data...well, they got away with it for decades with “climate change”, why would anyone think this would be different. This is how “science” lies. 2020...where everything is leftist politics and nothing is real or true.

More deep state fraud tied to the Ivy League.

Of course, it’s pretty well known that the ‘peer reviewed journal’ system is pay to play nad is rife with fraud.

The other authors on both studies should be publicly humiliated and their employers might want to consider how appropriate it is to have them as a part of their research faculty.

It only took about 15 minutes of research to realize that something was very fishy about Surgisphere. Anyone with actual medical expertise and experience should have seen the warning signs instantly.

I wish there were some way to hold these people responsible for all the dis-information.
Their careless and dishonest words destroy lives every day.

Great to see the MSM carrying this story. WAPO, CNN etc. have the story. I wonder if the story is buried and I only found it because of my search.

If a lawyer publishes a law review article, let's say purely for example, Texas Family Law Practice Manual, and in it, the lawyer recounts advising a client and all clients to ignore a TRO because 'he's seen SPLC studies that show TRO's are overassigned to his client's minority", and then that client murders his wife, and then your print the same damn thing in another law manual, yeah you will lose your license and quite possibly your freedom.

The idea that Mandeep Wreckedum should get away without penalty, without having MD stricken from his name forever, for depriving patients of Dr. Raoult's live-saving protocols simply because Didier refuses to engage his detractors in English (and they've used that reticence against him) is abhorrent and depraved, MR. Mandeep. Apology not good enough by half.

because the surgisphere guy would not share his data set with anyone. After investigating the Lancet pulled the paper.
when the paper was released it had not been peer reviewed.
