Nat King Cole, well that is not even a discussion.
As for the second set, I am most definitely not a fan of either song, to the point I actually said something out loud to some folks who know me about this situation.
The best advice, and the route I took was: Compare the Bass Lines.
WOW!
Thanks for the selections, and I look forward to the next time you present one of these. I love it!

What a contrast between the standards era and the new, emerging rock era! I prefer the standards, but I’ll bet my favorite singer, Nat, won’t end up prevailing over Elvis. Here’s mine:

Wanna vote for the King, but Mack is just a fun song.

I’m gonna go with Mack the Knife, although I would’ve taken Hound Dog over Mack....
Rock Around the Clock is the song of the Decade in my book.
That makes me wonder: Why no remakes? It’s a rock song recorded in the days before the popularization of the electric guitar. That it works so well is a testament to the energy of Bill Haley and the Comets and its songwriting, but it seems it SHOULD be an electric guitar song!
“Compare the Bass Lines.”
I got a 20 pounder on my line! Oh... I lost him! :-(
