Want to know how you can tell when the lockdown became a new great depression? It’s when the media starts experiencing large layoffs. Glenn Reynolds has a roundup of media layoffs currently under way that makes for the feel good story of the week for sure.
The New York Times reports that “Roughly 33,000 workers at news companies in the U.S. have been laid off, been furloughed or had their pay reduced. Some publications that rely on ads have shut down.” And it seldom gets better than this:

I suppose this will just free up a lot of media people to volunteer full time for Democrats, though of course they’re doing that already, so how could we tell?

I’m having trouble understanding how the quality of my life will be diminished if NPR goes under. I can see how my life would improve if CNN, NYT, MSNBC, WaPo and their ilk go under. WaPo won’t go under since Bezos is their sugar daddy. However, he will probably reduce reporter salaries to minimum wage and tell them to be grateful they have a job. In this case, I would agree with him.
I like the way that they fund raise in spite of the taxpayers giving them $500 million a year.

The media is using a formula which is 40 yrs old.
Garbage is right. Fake news from cable, national networks and big city newspapers is RE-DISTRIBUTED without critical thinking by smaller papers, internet sites like Yahoo! and Drudge and LOCAL television news.
