Hawaii Governor David Ige is preparing to slash teacher salaries by 20 percent as the state faces the grim financial realities of the coronavirus pandemic...Inge warned the states public sector unions about the possible pay cut on Tuesday, just months after negotiating more than $160 million in raises for the next two years. Those raises were virtually certain to pass the legislature weeks ago, but the pandemic forced lawmakers to reverse course...

Well..maybe people are also figuring out that “education” ain’t worth what they are being charged.
Not sorry.
We’ve been paying them too much to indoctrinate our young against the country.
He just lost the Teacher’s Union backing.
What will they make after the cut? 140,000 dollars? :)
Not a bad start.

Looking for the world’s smallest ukulele.
That, and the fact that in some states teachers are getting the lion’s share of pay increases compared to state, county, and local government workers, and these workers are getting P.O’ed and do not want to suffer alone when the cuts come.
The more the leftists suffer economically the quicker this shutdown nonsense will end. Government employees necessarily will take pay cuts, be furloughed and/or dismissed. I detect yet another leftist, anti-Trump effort backfiring on the blue states and their nanny state politicians.
If it was Republicans it would be WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!
Should never had become a state to begin with. Native Hawaiians are the worst, their racism would make even the KKK blush.
THIS is the sort of thing that will get the states in gear!
Education is a privilege, not a right. ANd to be an educator should not be an entitled anointment.
Good one!
That will wrap up this lockdown quickly.
For 2/3’s of a day during 2/3’s of a year. My real estate taxes are 3%+ of the purchase price of my house; and more than 2 of those 3 percentage points are the school tax.
Top of scale is 17 years (age 39) at about $102,000; with add-ons for absolutely *any* effort they make above the bare minimum, such as getting a master’s degree (dubious value); coaching the debate team or sports, etc.
Plus, they all have side gigs since they have so much free time, retire at 57 with 3 pensions (state, school district and union); and health insurance for life, and collect it for 30+ years since they have a stress-less life and live forever. Work 35 years, collect pension for 30+ years with COLA’s - make more retired than they did working.
For glorified day care.
It happens every now and then :)
I can see the outcome will be reduced staff.
Unless the MSM can spin their way out of it, the Democrats and leftists are going to own the shutdown and its consequences.
As I predicted, the non-economist politicians and teachers didn’t stop to do a back-of-the-napkin calculation about what playing “chicken” with the economy might cost them in the end.
