I just opined to my better half a couple days ago that if teachers stopped getting paid like the rest of the American workforce, this lockdown would rapidly come to an end.

Not to pick on teachers- some are good - but they do subsidize the largest leftist/Democrat lobbying union in America, and should feel some of the pain Pelosi and co. are inflicting.

For those that don’t know, Hawaii is the only state where the whole state is one school district so the state government sets all of the state’s public school teachers’ salaries.

Teachers are pretty much government employees. ALL government besides TRULY/absolutely vital with necessity should be unemployed if they are doing nothing but sucking a paycheck. They should suffer with the rest of us.

Because tourists enroll their kids in Hawaiian schools? Unless they have the whole on-line teaching thing going on, I presume they are not working now so no reason to pay them. But I’m sure there are plenty of jobs to cut before they get down to teachers. Low-hanging fruit. Maybe start with a few thousand non-essential state employees or even school administrators? The tourism board, perhaps? I’m sure there are more if they put their minds to it. The state ivory tower is a pretty crowded place...

Thanks. I can see how it would be easier for other government employees in Hawaii to take sides against teachers.

In other states, property tax payers who so happen to be government employees but not teachers have to put pressure on school boards, I guess. It might be hard to socially distance at those meetings in the near future.

I am dealing with that at work. A young engineer came from a very liberal New York family and is a rabid Trump hater. He thinks the president is completely incompetent and even if Trump cured cancer, would blame him for resultant cuts to research for a cancer cure. I may ask him how many people he would be willing to see dead in order to see Trump defeated.
