Can’t go to a second home?

First time I’ve seen that one. Wonder how it sits with all the Chicagoans with beach homes on Lake Michigan, especially in The Havens.

the ill-advised and outright dangerous protest

I am REALLY tired of this bogus premise: that questioning or defying the insane reaction to COVID is assumed to be putting others in danger. If YOU are so terrified of COVID (and so easily manipulated into surrendering just about every right you have to politicians following the advice of “experts”), then YOU go hide under your bed, wear your mask and gloves, stay 6’ away from whomever you’re afraid of this week, and let everyone else LIVE THEIR LIVES!

You’d rather be “safe” than free? Fine. Stay home and be “safe”. The rest of us would rather be free.

For God’s sake! If you’re that freaking brain dead that you can be led over the cliff without questioning any of it then great. STAY IN THE HOUSE, hide away, don’t contact any of the rest of us. The rest of the country can go about our business again. Take some damned personal responsibility in protecting yourself from real or perceived threats and we’ll do the same; as we’ve always done up until this fiasco.

“rights aren’t absolute, and yield to the common good.”

Sorry, that dog wont hunt.

Where is that written, not interpreted, in the Constitution?

My rights from G_d are never yielded, only trampled by unlawful government action, expressly prohibited by the limited powers in the Constitution.

...politicians following the advice of “experts”...
_________________________________________________________

Those “experts” have been exposed as political bureaucrats aligned with special interests. Their opinions are not judicious nor neutral. Their agendas are suspect and this past 6 weeks has exposed most of them.

It’s definitely a selective quarantine, and I agree. Mask wear and social distancing may very well be reasonable rules, but how can masking and social distancing be selectively enforced? For example, how can a gun store be closed while a grocery store is allowed to stay open, assuming both establishments meet the same masking and social distancing requirements?

I am. I think. I will.

My hands... My spirit... My sky... My forest... This earth of mine.... What must I say besides? These are the words. This is the answer.

I stand here on the summit of the mountain. I lift my head and I spread my arms. This, my body and spirit, this is the end of the quest. I wished to know the meaning of things. I am the meaning. I wished to find a warrant for being. I need no warrant for being, and no word of sanction upon my being. I am the warrant and the sanction.

It is my eyes which see, and the sight of my eyes grants beauty to the earth. It is my ears which hear, and the hearing of my ears gives its song to the world. It is my mind which thinks, and the judgement of my mind is the only searchlight that can find the truth. It is my will which chooses, and the choice of my will is the only edict I must respect.

Many words have been granted me, and some are wise, and some are false, but only three are holy: “I will it!”

Whatever road I take, the guiding star is within me; the guiding star and the loadstone which point the way. They point in but one direction. They point to me.

I know not if this earth on which I stand is the core of the universe or if it is but a speck of dust lost in eternity. I know not and I care not. For I know what happiness is possible to me on earth. And my happiness needs no higher aim to vindicate it. My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. It is its own goal. It is its own purpose.

Neither am I the means to any end others may wish to accomplish. I am not a tool for their use. I am not a servant of their needs. I am not a bandage for their wounds. I am not a sacrifice on their altars.

I am a man. This miracle of me is mine to own and keep, and mine to guard, and mine to use, and mine to kneel before!

I do not surrender my treasures, nor do I share them. The fortune of my spirit is not to be blown into coins of brass and flung to the winds as alms for the poor of the spirit. I guard my treasures: my thought, my will, my freedom. And the greatest of these is freedom.

I owe nothing to my brothers, nor do I gather debts from them. I ask none to live for me, nor do I live for any others. I covet no man’s soul, nor is my soul theirs to covet.

I am neither foe nor friend to my brothers, but such as each of them shall deserve of me. And to earn my love, my brothers must do more than to have been born. I do not grant my love without reason, nor to any chance passer-by who may wish to claim it. I honor men with my love. But honor is a thing to be earned.

I shall choose friends among men, but neither slaves nor masters. And I shall choose only such as please me, and them I shall love and respect, but neither command nor obey. And we shall join our hands when we wish, or walk alone when we so desire. For in the temple of his spirit, each man is alone. Let each man keep his temple untouched and undefiled. Then let him join hands with others if he wishes, but only beyond his holy threshold.

For the word “We” must never be spoken, save by one’s choice and as a second thought. This word must never be placed first within man’s soul, else it becomes a monster, the root of all the evils on earth, the root of man’s torture by men, and of an unspeakable lie.

The word “We” is as lime poured over men, which sets and hardens to stone, and crushes all beneath it, and that which is white and that which is black are lost equally in the grey of it. It is the word by which the depraved steal the virtue of the good, by which the weak steal the might of the strong, by which the fools steal the wisdom of the sages.

What is my joy if all hands, even the unclean, can reach into it? What is my wisdom, if even the fools can dictate to me? What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and the impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?

But I am done with this creed of corruption.

I am done with the monster of “We,” the word of serfdom, of plunder, of misery, falsehood and shame.

And now I see the face of god, and I raise this god over the earth, this god whom men have sought since men came into being, this god who will grant them joy and peace and pride.

This god, this one word:

“I.”

So if i am wearing a mask and cloves , my body fully covered, wearing a burka and somebody coughs on me, I'm going to catch the virus.. ?

Perhaps. (Assuming the person that coughs has the virus). The N95 mask is only good for about 50% of the particles from a cough. 50% of them are smaller than what the mask will filter out. The burka doesn’t help. And of course you have to take all that crap off without sucking in a load.

I don’t know where you are, but in my neck of the woods even radical gun-grabbing leftist governors have backed down and allowed gun stores to open. This was almost certainly a response to the Federal government’s formal recognition of gun dealers as “essential businesses.” Once the Feds came out with that statement, these governors knew they were going to be on the losing end of many lawsuits in Federal courts when this is all over.

” If you’re that freaking brain dead “

I’m assuming you are calling me out as you said “you’re” instead of “there’re”. The reason for the post was I want a well thought out response to my cowering in fear relative that believes everyone needs to be in lockdown because she and her husband are at risk. One of my last responses to her was:

“You know you are free to remain hunkered down in your home. You can continue to live as you wish. With the easing of restrictions there is no one forcing you to go out and associate with people you feel are putting you at risk. It is up to you.” and

“Our Constitution is in place not to give us our rights, but to stop our government from taking them them. I will never ever willingly give up my rights for the “greater good”. It is very sad that people are being frightened into wanting to give our rights away. Live Free or Die is not just a saying to me, it is a way of life and a belief.”

On the basis of lies, domestic enemies.

Covid Act Now was overwhelmingly-responsible for the fake numbers and governors’ actions, if not entirely.

Their numbers de-legitimize the governors’ actions wholesale and every day under which we live with their punitive declarations they become more culpable.

“Liberty gives you the right to act the fool if you so choose; it does not, however, give you the right to do so at the expense of others.” -A sentence I jotted in my Constitutional Law class notes one day in 2009.

Yes, but an abstract thing like "might get sick" is not sufficient, actual harm to others to justify any kind of limiting of a person's rights. Much less every person? What probable cause is there to simply assume that every member of the populace is sick and can infect others? The purpose of quarantine is to isolate the infected and strangers who are unknown. Not to shut down all the healthy people.

Justice Harlan’s words in Jacobson echoed the Court’s decision from 15 years earlier in Crowley v. Christensen, in which the Court stated that “the possession and enjoyment of all rights are subject to such reasonable conditions as may be deemed by the governing authority of the country essential to the safety, health, peace, good order and morals of the community. Even liberty itself, the greatest of all rights, is not unrestricted license to act according to one's own will. It is only freedom from restraint under conditions essential to the equal enjoyment of the same right by others. It is then liberty regulated by law.”

Oh, I see now! Our rights aren't natural, God-given, but instead are granted to us by government.

Slavery is an interesting legal point. Florida had a system for years where one could either pay a road tax or provide manual labor for six weeks a year.

The framers envisioned the population being forced to enlist for military service. This sort of thing holds in 100% of societies, from tribes to nations.

No one can explain to me why I can purchase plumbing supplies or nails and hammer at my local Home Depot but not gardening supplies or a mower.

No one can explain to me how a father and son going out fishing in their motorized boat can be a danger to anyone....
