Dr. Birx and "logarithmic" error shuts down economy

I'm concerned that for 2 days in a row Dr. Birx has been saying "logarithmic" curve instead of "exponential" This could indicate a small issue (her staff's too polite to correct her) or a bigger issue (if she doesn't even know the proper vocabulary what else is she wrong about?)

I'm sure many posters at freerepublic.com understand the difference between a rapid exponential growth and a slow rising logarithmic curve. In fact, logarithmic and exponential are virtual mathematical opposites. This is not a slip of the tongue as Dr. Birx said it at least 4 times last week. M.D. or not, Birx does not know high school math, and she is now partly in charge of the largest economy in the world.

But Dr. Brix doesn't seem to. And yet she depends upon math and modeling to destroy the economy

Off by a couple orders of magnitude. She had the 3 significant digits correct, though.

She means logarithmic, and is correct in her usage.

Consider the corrupt source.

Dr. Robert Redfield, the director of the CDC, and Dr. Deborah Birx
— the Coronavirus Coordinator for the White House —
were the targets of a damning Department of Defense investigation after colleagues in the U.S. Army
and U.S. Air Force blew the whistle
on scientific fraud during clinical trials of a HIV/AIDS vaccine."

The proper term/curve/pattern is, logistic. We've seen it before, and we're seeing it here, and we'll see it next time.

I noticed that, and assumed that it was just a convention in epidemiology. If infections are an exponential function of time, then time is a logarithmic function of infections,

The “curve” has been wrong from Day 1.

All the sharks surrounding and advising Trump should be highly scrutinized as well as their yet unexposed deep state agenda, which if Trump is not careful, will paint both Trump and this country into a corner that will decades to fix. Ironic, cause I always asserted and believed it would take decades to fix what ObamaIdiot phuked up.

Well, looking at the graphs - daily new case groth hasn’t been exponential in at least 10 days.

Daily new deaths haven’t been exponential in 6 days.

I have found that medical doctors, and even medical professionals that post here on FR, may know epidemiology, but they really do not understand math. Sadly, they do not understand or use the correct vocabulary, nor do they understand the limits of the tools they use in their predictions. Those are the same tools they try to convince the rest of the world that their conclusion is the only conclusion. Also, sadly, they are often too full of themselves and their PhD to admit their shortcomings.

Could she be referring to data displayed on a graph on a logarithmic scale?

Deborah is every bit as bad as Fauci. She is more dangerous. She has that “kind woman looking out for the well being of the country” thing down perfect. In fact she is a scheming rat just like Fauci.

For the most part there is little distinction between “algebraic”, “logarithmic”, “geometric”, and “exponential” in common usage. They are absolutely different mathematically, but in common speech they are unfortunately all used to simply refer to a rapid, compounding rise.

And yeah, they, and even many mathematicians, also generally are pretty poor at advanced statistics.

To: The people have spoken

“If infections are an exponential function of time”

Wouldn’t the proper term be “geometric” vs. “exponential”?

Exponential implies a continuous function. Geometric implies a discreet time interval.

Since the number of infections are sampled once or twice a day, that would make the progression ‘geometric’.

I figured you or someone else on FR would know :-).

Yep. She’s the concerned mom telling us to put up our hoods and wear our mittens.

I try to avoid hearing her voice, but when I do, I hear condescension and power-drunkenness hiding behind her words.
