Iceland has tested 10% of its population for COVID-19, by far the largest percentage of any country.
And it has discovered that the fatality rate is 0.004%.
That’s lower than the flu.
Should we start shutting everything down, every year, because of the flu?
Wondering how many were exposed before January, had “the flu,” recovered and have immunity? It is very possible that a very large percentage of CA and west coast were exposed.
12 cases in our county, 3 admits, 2 deaths...
My personal experience is rather different
what if thousands have had it with no severe symptoms?
They screwed the economy for this small number?
Or the Icelanders have a robust genetic defense
Do you believe only 12 people in your whole county have been exposed to the virus?
But dontcha know that the reason that it is so low is because of the draconian, yet well intended, measures our elite, benighted, and expert rulers imposed on us, you peasants.

Actually it’s low due to someone moving the decimal two places to the left. That and the it’s (deaths)/(total_cases), which is not an entirely accurate way to calculate.
7 divided by 1600 is 0.4%, not 0.004%.
Flu is around 0.1%
The Spanish Flu of 1918 attacked in three waves. The first wave was very similar to what we’re seeing today with minimal lethality. Waves two and three were highly lethal often resulting in 30% mortality. It’s a bit early to declare victory.
Words often used to describe the first wave: “It’s just the flu, nothing to worry about.”
The death rate is not calculated on the basis of who has been tested, but on confirmed cases.
As of this morning, the worldwide death rate is 6.149%. The US death rate is 3.888%. This is a LOT higher than the seasonal influenza death rate. It’s even higher than the 1917-1919 H1N1 influenza pandemic death rate.
Don’t take this lightly. If we stop the efforts to control the spread, millions will die.

Confirmed vs deaths is 3.87% in the US. You can’t use the total population because the event is still occurring. At some point in the Spanish Flu, the rate was 0.004%. It ended up being much higher.

That may well happen. If we get Democrats in power again we will have National Emergencies declared for AGW and whatever else including seasonal flu. This has been a very dangerous precedent and has opened an avenue to total rule that the citizenry so far have meekly accepted.
Ever notice that all the fear mongering since day one is over what “will happen in the future”? We’ll we’re in “the future” and they are still trying to scare us with what “could happen in the future”.
