I am in Cary, North Carolina. Here is what I just saw.
Just came back from the Harris Teeter off of
270 Grande Heights Dr
Harrison Pointe Shopping Center
Cary, NC 27513
This store is normally well stocked, and you never have trouble finding anything. This morning it was about 65% full. Cleaning supplies, TP, meat, milk and bread were all very low or gone.
The body washes were low. There were lots of empty shelves.
I was listening to the the employee at the cash register. She said there were a lot of people coming into the store and buying anywhere from $600 to $800 worth of groceries. Harris Ts said they were trying to restock the shelves, but the demand was so hight they were having trouble keeping up.I could see the store was restocking the shelves, but wow I have never seen it so empty!
As long as President Trump can keep the supply chain moving, then we will be in good shape. This is evidence on why we should not be so dependent on China for everything. If this was the 1990s and going back, then this would not even be an issue. Thanks to the stupid politicians that sold us out. It is a modern version of the Indian Chiefs selling out their tribes for guns, booze and trinkets.

Basic report: all raw real eggs GONE.
Bread almost picked over.
Cleaners esp. disinfectants almost completely gone.
ALL paper products - 1 side of the aisle - GONE. COMPLETELY EMPTY. No tissues, toilet paper or paper towels.
Proof positive that the less mind one possesses, the quicker it is lost - depleted.
Now that’s funny right there I don’t care who you are.
That’s my fear. Someone who knows they have it may go to a store and smear it on items.
You know they’re gonna be out there.

I got to Costco at 6:00 am today and was first in line for the toilet paper because I am almost out. Grocery stores get it and it’s immediately gone as is Walmart’s. I hope I never have to do this again

it’s pointless to shop at walmarts on monday because the shelves are basically stripped clean ... many other stores are not fully stocked then either, but nowhere near as bad as walmart ... it’s because walmart and many others don’t want to pay truckers OT for trucking on the weekends, and stripped shelves on Monday at Walmart are why i quit shopping there ...
and you’re right about storms too, but in Colorado it’s not because idiots are panic-shopping because we stay stocked up in the winter anyway, but because the trucks simply can’t get through at all when there are really bad snow storms ...
I’m a heavy truck driver for a grocery chain with stores all across Iowa and into surrounding states. We’re in the cities, but specialized in serving small to medium sized towns where we’re often the only grocery source for many miles around.
I’ve seen one store in the last 48 hours where the manager had to post a one package per customer limit on toilet paper. They did it in time to preserve a sufficient stock for everybody to get what they need. I think corporate pushed that out to all stores yesterday so the people in communities that depend on us don’t walk away empty handed. Meats and staples are in good supply.
Our drivers are all healthy, and the warehouse people, while swamped, are keeping up so far. The inbound lots are still full of outside carriers’ trucks supplying our warehouses. Company president posted to all drivers the usual recommendations and stated that any guy who has doubts should stay away. If that bug gets passed around our driver staff and in the back door of our stores, a lot of people are going to be screwed. The posting hinted that they’re developing a stiff counter measures procedure for quick implementation in the next few days. We drivers are fortunate in that our system requires little human contact on-duty.
A sickness that sidelined 10% of our drivers would put tens of thousands of customers in a tight spot, but we’d all muddle through. Truckload logistics in the last 20 years has moved into a just-in-time paradigm, so not many businesses anywhere have huge stockpiles of anything warehoused. If something severely hampered the trucking system for a week or two, things in my opinion get feral and primitive instantly...nationwide...most especially in the cities.
I would look for the feds to use their emergency declaration powers to suspend the commercial drivers’ hours of service limitations for the duration. It’s not just groceries, but basically everything sold by anyone that has to get there in a big truck. Assuming that people would like to keep eating and having an economy, commercial drivers are essential workers to the uninfected majority as vital as doctors and nurses are to the infected minority. Hell, even those people need their drugs and medical supplies brought in promptly from other time zones.
Federal Motor Carrier regs already contain a provision to suspend hours of service (HOS) limits for individual truck drivers who are hauling supplies and equipment for relief of officially-designated disaster areas. I think that extending that nationwide soon would give carriers the flexibility to offset freight hauling capacity losses that will ensue from a percentage of truckers being taken out by sickness. That’s just going to happen. Preventing those supply chain disruptions would be a lot more pleasant for every citizen than enduring a frantic, chaotic catch-up ordeal after things were allowed to go to pot.
It’s not on the public’s radar, but I hope the President has prodded the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to dope out a plan for this and get it in readiness for swift implementation.

We just received word that our county and some adjacent to us have declared states of emergency. All our schools are closed indefinitely. My wife and daughter (who lives with us) are both teachers. We spent much of today getting ready to do everything on-line. Will be interesting. Our church has canceled services for this week.
Someone mentioned that these stores out to stamp on each receipt "NO RETURNS".
I once was a night stocker at Wal-Mart in the furniture section. Every Thanksgiving, we would sell out of bar stool sets of six or eight. After the holidays, they'd all show up as returns.
Time to start penalizing these sponges.
Rarest wife and I went to the Vitamin Shoppe and Walgreens today. Both places were completely wiped of any “immunity boosting” supplements such as vitamin C, elderberry, even water additives such as Mio. We’re both completely confused by this. It’s like someone release a rabid racoon, and no one can figure out why it’s frothing at the mouth.
What the Hell is going on that people think they need to hoard toilet paper? Meanwhile, the stuff that REALLY matters such as cold medication is adequately stocked. Why aren’t there runs on things like NyQuil? Or cough suppressants?

it’s simply the herd stampeding because the rest of the herd is stampeding: people hear there are shortages of something and they rush out and greedily hoard all they can, thereby ACTUALLY CREATING said shortages ...
a notorious example of this is whenever it snows an inch or snow in Charlotte, NC, everyone rushes out to buy eggs, milk, bread and toilet paper because everyone “knows” that snow “storms” in Charlotte causes those things to be in short supply ...
Suffolk Va- Today- Walmart completely obliterated as far as no paper products, very little cold med stuff, NO lunchmeat, kolbasi, sausage, bacon, chicken (frozen or fresh), hotdogs- totally crazy!
