So many FRiends had expressed concern about me going on a crowded cruise ship due to Corona Virus Disease (covid), I am posting a post-cruise report here.

“and keep up with my Gym routine every other day.”

I hope you have a home gym, because if you go to a public gym and you are infected, then you probably infected a lot of other people.

you were on the cruise right as the virus was starting- and didn’t cruise to hot spots so chances are kinda good you didn’t encounter infected folks- in a week or two, there would be no way I’d even consider going- Way too risky-

Once this virus gets really rolling along, spreading out, fanning out- things like even public transportation are gonna be risky- They are right now, but I mean when it really gets spreading- Subways, buses, cabs, car pooling, etc- That is how the virus is really gonna spread rapidly- as millions of folks have to get to work- get to the stores (another hot spot once the virus gets rolling)

People going to ball games, shopping centers, vacations, visiting cities with millions crowding sidewalks, carnivals, Disney land, etc-

People going to doctor’s offices, appointments, hospitals, nursing homes, rehabs, etc- where all the sick people are going-

Right now it’s not real bad- hopefully it stays this way- but I don’t see how it can with all the above scenarios that must take place-

The crowd on the ship was 50-50 old (over 60) and young (under 40).
I will be 80 in couple of months but in better shape than at age 57 when I retired due to bad health. My partner is a cancer survivor in mid-60’s and she is in so-so shape due to ongoing chemo treatments.

The difficult thing is that some of these Fantasy vacations were bought and paid for months ago. I am understanding that people pay as much as 10,000 dollars. And if those people cancel then they lose every cent. There are no refunds.

That is a difficult position to be in. But I think that I would forfeit the money.

I would avoid LONG airline travel as compared to a huge cruise ship where you have plenty of outdoor space with fresh ocean air and sunshine.

You may want to consider, just out of precaution, what they call the ‘Vitamin D Hammer’- Take 50,000 iu of Vit D- There is some pretty good scientific evidence that it can stunt any virus that might be brewing- making it less severe- I take it whenever I think i might be getting a cold or flu- don’t know if it works- but it seems to- The reason i say i dunno if it works is cuz i always get flu shot- so if i do get the flu, it’s usually not as bad anyways- so hard to tell if the D was what helped, or if it was all the shot that lessened the severity of the flu

Good advice, I am popping 3 oranges every day and here in NE Florida sunshine is no problem. High today in low 80”s!

“My wife and I are looking at cruises right now, too. For some reason, the rates are REAL cheap.”

Same here. Florida to NY at $29 base price p/p 11 day

With the on going concern thou we want to have a balcony — fresh air. We used to be fine with inside cabins, wouldn’t be caught quarantined with recycled air.

“We went on a Princess cruise two weeks after the news about the virus. Everyone was fine.”

I admire your ability to go on cruises so often, tho I’d pass on going myself. Besides, I’m a landlubber and would prefer spending days in the country here in the US, anyway.

Airline air-purification - at any rate, on Delta and other major American airlines - is now so good that the air you breathe is fine. Didn’t used to be this way...until a few years ago, every time I came back from Europe, where I go fairly often, I’d get a cold.

The “common cold” virus is actually a corona virus.

But that hasn’t happened for years, and I actually feel fresher getting off the plane than when I boarded!

They say the big thing, if you’re worried, is to wipe down surfaces (tray tables, arm rests, etc.) with a disinfectant wipe and, as usual, to wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, not to touch the lavatory door or faucet handles after having washed your hands, etc. But that’s good advice for anytime, and I’ve been doing it for years.

One of my daughters is a cop and was a paramedic, and she’s extremely germ-phobic...and she’s not worried and is laughing at the hysteria. Just take regular precautions and be normal.

I was actually thinking this would be a good time to buy a cruise, because prices are way low!

look up the “Vitamin D Hammer”- it’s a pretty well researched issue- some well known medical journals have commented on it- We’ve ordered some Vit D at around 10,000 iu- so we’ll have to take a couple at a time- but it certainly can’t hurt- oh and it’s a one time dose- don’t keep taking it- i guess it’s ok if a week or more goes by- but still only pop them if you think you might have been exposed to a virus- or feel like you are coming down with something- but do your own research on it and decide fro mthere- I was pretty impressed with the research into it- I know a lot of health blogs make wild claims, but this one seems to have medical research behind it

I will definitely avoid any flight over 2 hours where you are in a confined place and breathing recirculated air.

I find the larger cruise ships have so many outdoor spaces, it is much easier to breathe in fresh ocean air which is highly oxygenated from all the plankton.

“That is a difficult position to be in. But I think that I would forfeit the money.”

Not a problem for me - boats are just for from getting here to there, in my book and I don’t have 10 grand to throw at the water, anyway. So, all’s good for me.
