Trump has voiced support for congressional term limits. During the 2016 presidential campaign that he would push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress.
After he became President in 2018 he tweeted: I recently had a terrific meeting with a bipartisan group of freshman lawmakers who feel very strongly in favor of Congressional term limits. I gave them my full support and endorsement for their efforts.

Last night there was an interesting moment when he suggested that maybe the Senate should limit his presidency on 25 years so that he can keep making America great.

During his second term in 1987, Reagan stated that he would start a “movement” to repeal the 22nd amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which limits presidents to two terms in office — a movement Trump could try to revive.
The Democrats, on the other hand, think that a single-term presidency is the best option.
Under the Articles of Confederation, Americans limited delegates to Congress to no more than “three years in any term of six years”; the president was not to serve “more than one year in any term of three years.” Yet the U.S. Constitution did not explicitly mandate either presidential or congressional term limits. Some wanted George Washington to be president for life, but he was too burned out to pursue a third term. It was Thomas Jefferson who established the two-term custom.
The option of a single-term presidency has been considered throughout U.S. history. In 1912, the Democratic Party platform formally called for a single presidential term; the following year, the Senate approved a constitutional amendment to that effect. Former President Woodrow Wilson then had the proposed amendment discreetly killed when Congress went out of session.
After Franklin D. Roosevelt’s wartime bids for a third and fourth term had been futilely opposed by presidential candidates Wendell Wilkie and Thomas E. Dewey, the Senate soundly defeated a proposal to limit all federal officials to a single six-year term in 1947. The Senate then adopted the 22nd amendment, which was ratified by the states in 1951. In 1979, Jimmy Carter argued in favor of a single-term presidency on the grounds that no matter what he did, people would question whether it was a selfish “campaign ploy” or “genuinely done in the best interest of our country.”

Now let's discuss this... How has term limits helped California from kicking the can down the road? Before term limits, most retirement benefits for public employees were counted as part of their pay in budgets. Once term limits kicked in, CalPERS promised 7%+ returns, had government entities kick in MUCH less on retirement, and included promises of lifetime health care (at the time, insurance, which is now replaced entirely with HMOs.)
That can alone accounts for nearly a half trillion in liabilities owed by the governmental entities in California, but it sure made the government employee unions happy and ensured they'd vote as a block for candidates who supported keeping the status quo.
There is no reset in term limits; you're just ensuring that the person doesn't have to worry about reelections and can do whatever they please, because they'll be going after a new constituency in the near future and empowering their staff to stay on 'because they know the job.'
If the 22nd were repealed we would still be suffering under Obama.

Ronald Reagan favored one six-year term for the President. I don’t disagree with that - the Chief Executive should not have to concern himself with campaigning.
Term limits have nothing to do with California’s problems.
I wouldn’t mind giving him a third term. Just to make sure the Dems don’t stage a comeback.

What is the real problem and how do we fix it?
Reynolds v Sims would be a root cause, where state senators were changed from covering land area to covering the same apportioned amount of the population. But term limits certainly have exasperated the problems caused by that hugely faulty decision.

How about: If a President is impeached but not convicted, he gets an extra term.
This would address frivolous impeachment.
Staff doesn't vote. I'm not saying they aren't influential, but in the end they don't vote and they don't put their names on legislation.
Senators: Two six year terms.
House Members: Six two year terms.

No, they don’t put their names on legislation, and they don’t vote. Where do you think Obamacare came from? Nancy Pelosi working hard at home on her computer? It came from staff who was just eagerly waiting for an opportunity to pop that legislation.
You want to triple or more that? Put in term limits. I see it here all the time in California, some idiotic idea gets passed around by staff waiting for some idiot who just got elected to their conveyor belt job to put their name on it and get it passed.
And yes, from the same office, I’ll see the same push to pass the same legislation even when the name on the office changes hands.
