As infectious disease specialists and epidemiologists race to contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus centered on Wuhan, China, theyre getting back up thats been possible only since the explosion in genetic technologies: a deep-dive into the DNA of the virus known as 2019-nCoV.
Analyses of the viral genome are already providing clues to the origins of the outbreak and even possible ways to treat the infection, a need that is becoming more urgent by the day: Early on Saturday in China, health officials reported 15 new fatalities in a single day, bringing the death toll to 41. There are now nearly 1,100 confirmed cases there.
More bad news came in as expert claimes that deadly coronavirus can be spread through the EYES after he contracted the disease, despite wearing a protective mask.

From my use and study of EOs, one should be very cautious about ingesting them. Read up from sources that are not selling them.
The bottle I have says: Oil of Oregano extract 10:1; other ingredients are olive oil, gelatin, glycerin, purified water
I figured it had to be diluted. I am a bit concerned that people who have not looked into the topic much might try to ingest straight oregano EO or any EOs and that can be fatal.
All about the mucus membranes...eyes have them in addition to the nose/mouth/throat. I just think the eyes are less susceptible for virus transmission (health pros chime in?). Health care workers do the face shields in addition to respiratory face masks in a virus situation.

Ingesting full strength...that would be bad. Oregano is strong (as you know).
when the ebola scare happened I put together a pandemic survival kit. No snake oil or rabbits feet or garlic necklaces or oregano oil or anything like that.
N95 masks
Lab goggles
Tyvek suits
Nitrile gloves
Sterno gell (Much better tho harsher than hand sanitizer)
Overboots
Duct tape
A pump sprayer
Some cases of bleach
A decon station in the garage
I am ready for this. If this thing explodes here I am very ready.
The thing that worries me is touched surface transmission. It is unclear how long something stays an infective vector. For cold and flu coronaviruses up to 1 to 2 days. for SARS and MERS it was up to two weeks.
Last year during ‘flu season, I used oil of oregano (according to the label, ‘in extra virgin olive oil, standardized to a minimum of 70% carvacrol’) with no ill effects; and didn’t catch the flu or even a ‘cold’. Mine is probably something like this:
I have read that it’s probably not something you should do always, but when you feel you might be vulnerable to catching something. There’s some question as to whether your body might get too used to it and it won’t be as effective - like any antibiotic.

(Not medical advice. I’m not a doc, don’t play one on TV, and don’t stay in motels.)
Well, and that they’ve put a dozen cities and 56 million people (NYC is 11 million) on lockdown. Dumping rubble on roadways to block traffic, etc.
NYC is 8.6 million.
NYC “metropolitan area,” which includes nearby NJ, is 20 million.
I would add soap for sensitive skin, like one kind of Dove bar soap, so the skin on your hands can withstand the more frequent washing.
Especially for older folks. Your skin gets thinner as you get older and is more vulnerable to various things.
You can try the soap you have on hand but if your hands start itching, switch.
Thanks - so about 6.5 times as many people as NYC!
I guess it is times like these that I’m glad the Chinese government has such huge power - even digging up roads (some reports) to prevent people from leaving. I hope it works - but I doubt that it will.
All of this presumably started with one person. Or perhaps dozens of people eating something.
Out of 56 million people, odds are that dozens of infected people are already outside the quarantine zones.
Although I guess it helps to slow the spread, and allows hospitals, etc. to ramp up for treatment.
Oh there is more stuff but that is the be able to go out stuff in the zombie apocalypse. Things like the UV sterilizer cabinet. Iodophor. Dettol soap. etc.
I treat almost every condition with herbs, EOs and some other stuff; and will consider oregano oil in more depth. I do not want to catch this thing, depending on what it is etc.
I’ve never had a stout immune system, recently went through cancer and GASP am not as young as I used to be.
I did some online reserach about hand washing methods, soaps including regular soap and anti-bacterial soap some years ago. I was surprised by my findings:
Rubbing the hands together vigorously for 1 minute under running water, even COLD water, without soap, got the same result as washing with with soap, hot water or even antibacterial soap.
What gets microbes off is washing them off, not killing them per se. So there is really no need for huge amounts of soap use unless there is slime, body fluids, oil, or other actual dirt or filth on the hands.
At the moment, I’m more likely to contract the unique ‘regular’ flu that we have going around. I’m at the age that I worry about getting sick - the last real ‘flu I had was a doozy, and I caught it from someone who apparently caught it himself on trip to Mexico and attendant airplane travel - in August.
But reasonable and responsible precautions should help a lot. Don’t listen to the people who say that ‘face masks are useless’. Even minimal protection and precaution is better than none at all.
It’s not a good idea to keep using hand sanitizers.
It’s also interesting that the body fights off viruses and germs on the skin on its own. Didn’t someone post that it takes only 5 hours? Can’t remember.
My feeling is that we should try to take command of the situation in one way by making sure our body is as immune as we can make it without being fanatical. Vitamins C and D, echinacea, etc. The health food store near me has its own formula including elderberry and other stuffs. Just minimize your chances. And take it as directed, don’t just buy it and then not take it frequently enough.
I don’t think there is much else that we can do. Just enjoy your life and make sure you are up to date.
I totally agree with you. That is why I use my home made santizer using neem decoction, white vinegar and EOs.
I’d add to your list avoiding people, if it gets widespread here.
I treat flu and other things naturally, most with my own herb formulas, home made elderberry, cough syrup etc. Still alive....
I think your ‘5 hours’ may refer to the time it takes for the skin to restore its acid mantle - ph balance - after being assaulted. A lot of soaps and cleansers that we use are very alkaline, and I’m not sure they have much effect, alone, upon a virus (?)
I think Jeremiah is correct in that the mechanical rubbing of the hands, and rinsing, is the most useful approach. Send those little buggers down the drain :-)
I did a lot of research into studies about hand washing, and was quite surprised that washing them off is the key, not trying to kill them with chemicals. Works just as well, and much easier on the skin and system.
