prayer request for my mother

Posted on 01/23/2020 10:11:05 AM PST by midnightcat

Hello, I never post vanities, but I would like to request prayers for my mother.

She is a sweet, 84 yr old, living independently and has friends, goes to church, etc. She has a large cancerous mass on her parotid gland and we went to Jefferson University Hospital yesterday for counsel. Dr feels she could do well with surgery providing PET scans show the cancer hasn't spread - that scan is now scheduled for next week.

Tentative surgery date is set if she is fully cleared for Feb 7th. This is a scary, 10 hour surgery with a risk that the doctor may have to cut her facial nerve if the cancer is all tangled around it. She is very scared and palliative care leading to hospice will be the next step if she does not or cannot get the surgery. We are all stunned at how fast this happened.

Please pray for comfort and guidance as my mother moves through this.

Thank you so much.

God’s hands can move very fast in our lives. We have had a couple of weeks like this ourselves. Trust all is in His hands and will come out well. Prayers up!

I am asking the Lord to touch her in body, soul and spirit. I am also asking for comfort for her and her whole family as they approach this phase of her precious life together. May the Lord draw everyone even closer than before.

Cat, I have had a partial parotidectomy and I Have a friend who had a whole removal. Her facial nerve remained intact.

I’m praying for your dear mother that she is healed and granted another 10 years.

My sister is going through that right now - they discovered a small mass on her parotid gland, and they have not yet diagnosed what it is. I’m kinda worried - and ask all of you for prayers for her, if you will. Thanks, all.

oh wow, thank you for telling me that! Yes, she will need a total parotidectomy with neck dissection (removal of lymph glands). But I do trust this doctor’s instinct that he wouldn’t suggest this surgery if he didn’t think she could handle it. He’s seen the paperwork we filled out on her health. Even if she does lose half her face, so to speak to paralysis, she will still be with her kids, which is what she still wants. Again, she needs the PET scan to see if there is further metastasis. Boy, this is a tough one. And she’s a retired registered nurse - always used to taking care of people and it’s hard for her to be the patient. Very hard.
