I'm seeing more and more Amazon Prime trucks on the road these days

Posted on 01/19/2020 3:13:50 PM PST by SamAdams76

There are now over 100 million Amazon Prime members.

Therefore, a lot of trucks are needed to get those good from here to there and from there to here.

I'm seeing more and more of them out on the roadways.

I bought a book from them in 1995 when they were just a small outfit. It was the 1994 edition of PASSPORT TO WORLD BAND RADIO.

No necessarily. Many of those people would have driven by Walmart or whatever store has it on their way to and from work so no extra gas. Others, like me, will decide it’s too much trouble and realize they don’t need whatever it was and saved themselves some money.

Needs vs. wants. Bet the vast majority of those sit on your butt and let them deliver it to your front door purchases were never needed.

I’m not in that vast majority. I will see something that is going to have to be purchased in a few days like bathroom bar and shower soap. I buy in bulk and save myself multiple trips. I do that with other items. Plan ahead and you don’t have to make UNNECESSARY trips.

UPS and FedEx have good jobs, but they sure aren’t vetting drivers any more. One huge driver for Amazon to deliver their own packages was the decreasing quality of UPS and FedEx delivery services in the wake of those two running off DHL from the US market. So now we have UPS and FedEx drivers crappily delivering packages, causing breakage and loss and the two firms not doing anything about it - which causes problems for Amazon.

Maybe the drivers should have thought about what would happen if they kept delivering packages like this: https://youtu.be/lM3SRG7D21Y

Amazon Logistics contractors caught doing that get fired. Can’t do that with FedEx or UPS. Or USPS.

Our drivers are wonderful in this area. I have never heard of one complaint about any of the three services.

You can find thousands of videos of bad drivers from the major services. Yours must be one of the only areas like that; my local area had the postman lose/steal a plastic welder that was being shipped to me and the local postmaster didn’t fire him. UPS has delivered packages flattened by forklifts and not seen anything wrong; FedEx has claimed they delivered packages when no courier arrived, proven by security camera.

And this is to a business address fully staffed during business hours.

I used to work for UPS, so I can say it’s not unusual behavior for them. FedEx is the least worst of the local traditional delivery services. And Amazon Logistics as seen so far is still better.

That’s because the board consisted of old fossilized idiots that couldn’t imagine beyond the catalog. And then when they did, they decided to kill the catalog with no replacement, figuring the stores would sell enough anyway. When they did realize people were buying stuff over the internet, years late, they didn’t spend the money to get a good website going - even today their site is a hot mess and trails well behind other major e-commerce sites.

The ‘best’ part of this was that Sears invested in and partially owned one of the first national online services, Prodigy - along with CBS and IBM. So it’s not like they didn’t know people were going online! Sears managed to screw Prodigy up too, though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prodigy_(online_service)

Last 30 days...

Huge Amazon warehouse with over 100 trailer bays opened about 25 miles away halfway between Orlando and Tampa on I-4.

Orlando and Tampa airports home to huge Amazon Prime Air planes.

Deliveries no longer by FEDEX, UPS or USPS but by Amazon Prime vans.

Just as Amazon leveraged their servers into AWS, eventually they will become a package delivery company and put Fed Ex et. al. out of business.

just not like that here. Perhaps it is the pool that the guys are drawn from:

our delivery guys are terrific.

Let me give you an example: on Christmas eve, after the post office closes, the postmistress and cohort deliver any and all of the packages that have not been picked up that day, to each of the homes in town.

the UPS guy looks for me, catches up on family, knows all of our family and the dog. the one time they coulnt make it down the driveway because of ice, they bagged our packages in plastic and hung them high on a bush so we could find them when we came down the drive way.

The Fedex guys are fast, on time and polite. All packages are delivered to inside the garage, and they put them in the house when I am home.

That’s nice. However, it is not the experience with many and Amazon got tired of the same drivers screwing the same customers over and over with no accountability. Sure, UPS or FedEx might eventually pay up for the package, but they won’t fire the guy causing the damage. Amazon would have to ship a replacement at their own expense, then if the driver screws that one up, another and perhaps another, etc.

COVID is a massive transfer of wealth from small businesses to large ones like Amazon.

Their customer service is legendary. You have a problem they take care of you.

This is true. We've had packages stolen and others that never arrived and they'll replace almost everything no questions asked>

They also hooked up Kohl's pretty well by allowing Kohl's to take care of Amazon returns. If you want to return something, you just drop it off at your nearest Kohl's and they'll give you a 15% off coupon for your troubles, which many consumers tend to spend while they're there on the premises (I know I do).
