OK, FREEPERS, LET'S START THIS CONTEST FOR THE GREATEST SONG OF THE '60S.
The baseline for the contest is the top 7 hits of each year of the '60s, as compiled by BILLBOARD. This is NOT based on personal preferences, biases, prejudices, or counter-culture fringe-element reactivity.
Round 1 is listing candidate songs in order of preference.
(The remaining rounds are handled as play-off brackets, starting with 32 pairs of songs to compare.)
ROUND 1
We begin by using the #7 songs of each year and paring them from 10 songs to 4 (to set up play-off brackets for the rest of the contest). NO equivocating, ties, or omissions.
1960 "It's Now or Never" Elvis Presley
1961 "Pony Time" Chubby Checker
1962 "The Loco-Motion" Little Eva
1963 "Fingertips" Little Stevie Wonder
1964 "My Guy" Mary Wells
1965 "Help!" The Beatles
1966 "Monday, Monday" The Mamas & the Papas
1967 "Somethin' Stupid" Frank & Nancy Sinatra
1968 "This Guy's in Love With You" Herb Alpert
1969 "Hot Fun in the Summertime" Sly and the Family Stone
Just a tidbit for the upcoming survey.
There is NO “dominance” in this range of top songs unless you think 4 out of 70 is dominant (Beatles).
Sorry, List “Help!” instead of the first Pony Time.

Best rock lyric ever:
“Woke up this mornin’ and I got myself a beer”
Not a fan of Tarantino flicks. Django Unchained finally did it for me. I did see Inglorious Bastards once and that was enough. It had a few good characters. Doing an alternate history movie has it’s drawbacks though. I thought Pitt was a stretch with his faux southernese. He was much better in Fury.
With Once Upon a Time, I was trapped in a room full of Christmas guests who wanted to watch it. I would have avoided it otherwise. I thought Damian Lewis (Band of Brothers) played a great Steve McQueen though...
1960 “It’s Now or Never” Elvis Presley

I’ll be posting my picks and my husband’s at some point this week. Hoping we can tip 100 posts!
This was very tough, because these are all classics and different styles (like trying to rank comedies with dramas). Even the least of the offerings is far superior to anything today, sadly.

Yes, it is tough with different genres or types.
And indeed, some hate lots of the songs, and others like them all but have to put something last.
