Everyone has his or her own definition of a political crisis. Mine is when our collective mental health starts having a profound effect on our politics and vice versa.
It cannot be a simple coincidence that the two have declined in tandem. The American Psychiatric Association reported that from 2016 to 2017, the number of adults who described themselves as more anxious than the previous year rose 36 percent. In 2017, more than 17 million American adults had a new diagnosis of a major depressive disorder, as well as three million adolescents ages 12 to 17. Forty million adults now suffer from an anxiety disorder nearly 20 percent of the adult population. (These are the known cases of depression and anxiety. The actual numbers must be dumbfounding.)

I just sat down on New Year’s Day and thought:
“Another great year in a great decade in a great life.”
Read the comments section.
Ahh yes, LOL!
Too bad all the depressed NYT readers can’t just end it all.
When LIES are sold wholesale to the population by the media, when mothers slaughter their babies before they are even born, when the kids that survive are told that they will never reach adulthood because of Gorebull Warmalcolding, when the Deep State can scoff at laws but they are enforced against the little guy, when people are so disconnected from the land and from the soil and from the sun that they build houses that face North in the US and they don’t know where their food comes from, is anyone really surprised that people are depressed?
Decades of negativity in the so-called “entertainment” industry and the so-called “news” media.
lol
Liberals are depressed because they are on their way to being extinct!
By the way, I don’t know who Marianne Williamson is, but she just fired her entire presidential campaign staff.
I guess that means she’s depressed.
almost thirty years of ritalin and participation trophies could be one of the reasons we have a certain group of unhappy creatures that refuse to handle the reality of losing...
When people put all their faith in politics/politicians (and not God), they are bound to be disappointed/depressed.
It is mainly the Leftist that are depressed.
This is because they have been under Leftist psychological attack for almost all their lives from the Media, Hollywood, Academia and their Leaders.
Many of these Leftist have been isolated to their parents basements. So they are not engaging every day people and being slowly brain washed. They are not socializing with people for fun but only politically based. They are isolated by their Leftist web sites that makes them think they are in the majority from TV (fake news, Leftist culture), radio (NPR), smart phones, tablets and computers.
They are getting assaulted in our food (GMOs and lack of nutrients), water (fluoride ), and the fact that the soil is not as rich as it use to be. The invention of power has reduced wood fires. The ash from the wood fires is what fertilizes the ground.
The above it what is creating this. Of course this is what they will use to put people on more pharmaceutical drugs. It is Brave New World in other words.
Situational depression sometimes arises when you are doing something or living some way that is somehow a violation of an internal norm. For example, if you believe you should be at home raising a family, but instead you drop your kid off at daycare every morning so you can go to a shitty job.
Your actions are in opposition to your norm.
This could add to stress and angst and generate all sorts of hormones in your head that will manifest as depression.
Of course there are other causes of depression. Your mileage may vary.
Normal Americans are happy.
The APA is a destructive organization. Ignore them.
They are making the mistake of surveying all democrats and patients at state mental hospitals. That’s where their polling takes place, too. And that’s how you get headlines that read “Biden 3 points ahead of TRUMP in election”. Rrrrrrrrightttt....
It is because too many people believe the New York Times.
When people are never forced to grow up, support themselves and have realistic expectations, they get depressed. We live in a nation of adult children who want someone to take care of them.
Because the fascist DemonicRats want to control every aspect of our lives, and we must believe in everything they believe in, which is control by Satan.
The writer is only a semi-successful writer who is nearing retirement age with no real retirement, but who has minor children. He is depressed because he has to come to grips with the result of his poor choices.
This is understandable. The Reader’s Pick set of comments in the NYT are both rather interesting and disturbing. Many are written by or about (some in the psychological or similar professions write about their increase in clients since the 2016 election) people in the NY area who are solidly middle or higher class. They do not have the economic anxiety of the write of the article and could enjoy a life well lived.
So sad. Imagine if these latter people chose, for just two or three days, to not read NYT, watch CNN, etc. and turn on Tucker or Crowdsource the Truth and click on Free Republic or American Thinker instead.
