Those who have studied the French Revolution will recall that they tried to change virtually everything in society.
As Ben Rhodes said of political reporters, that they are 27 years old and literally know nothing, so the French Revolutionaries wanted to redo the calendar, including the very years and months. For example, they tried to rename July to Thermidor. I'm not sure how that would've played in Australia, where Thermidor is in winter.
I suggest that we take a page out of their playbook, and do them one better.
We can leave the months alone, but the years should be redefined so that the New Year begins on January 20. Year 0 would be 2017; and instead of the system BC/AD (or, for you libtard atheist academics, BCE), all times before Jan 20, 2017 will become BT. The years after that date will be AA, short for Anno Americae, derived from the phrase, MAGA.
Tongue in cheek birdcage *PING*!
...oh, and Happy Trump Year!
Happy New Year!
No, a change was dictated from the top down, by Thomas Dewey and William Kirkpatrick at Columbia Teacher's College in the early 20th century. Before this time, ordinary, common people were possessed of a surprisingly high average culture level, based on primary education that looked for its model to the Christian acceptance of the classics of Western civilization.
In A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, two desperately poor young children repeatedly re-read the whole Bible and Shakespeare after their meager dinners over the course of a decade. Children of an alcoholic neer-do-well father and a faithful, hardworking washerwoman mother, they were so poor their growth was stunted by a childhood of eating nutritionally inferior food. The elder child, the daughter, wasn't allowed to continue school past the 6th grade. Yet she went into a knowledge-based occupation, assembling clippings from all of NY's papers into press digests for a wealthy customer (who when war broke out, turned out to be a German intelligence chief working for the Kaiser).
This was not uncommon. Ordinary people had a fine, middlebrow appreciation for higher culture. Dante translator Anthony Esolen reports about a Manitoba wheat farmer who would recite from memory, the whole of John Milton's Paradise Lost while he performed his manual farm labor.
A founding signatory to the Secular Humanist Manifesto, John Dewey planned to dispense K-8 school children from their classic cultural inheritance, because the American public were too cultured for socialism to take over. They must all be homogenized, uniformly dumbed down, so that progressives occupying the top elites of government, with egg-heads from academia, could come to regulate their lives.
This was done by creating the artificial academic field of study, educationalism, for like-minded agnostic-atheistic intellectuals who never taught in an actual classroom, to dictate to ordinary teacher-trainees in the Normal School system, hair-brained theory--that's fine in practice, how does it work out in theory?--that education based on the genius of DWMs must be jettisoned in favor of "child-centered" experiential activity. Phonics which had been used since the Phoenicians invented decodable script must be replaced with pictographic modeled, "whole word" study of 250 key words, so that children faced with new words will now say "I don't remember that". Mathematics which has been 99% worked about between Archimedes and the 19th century German mathematical genius Gauss, must be replaced with common-core, rediscovery of mathematical processes, reinventing the wheels of civilization at a kindergarten, building-block level.
Young people's ignorance today was calculated.
Hey, at least it's modest. :^)
The rabid left would rather call last year "Year 12" and this year "Year 11", to be followed by "Year 10" as we count down to the end of the world. The only way to reset that Doomsday Clock would be to give totalitarian socialists absolute power worldwide. If we're willing to do that, then Bernie, Warren, and the Annoying Oblivious-Commie are eager to rule over the little people . . . for our own good, of course.
Those are our choices - count up from our path toward restoring freedom or count down to #FakeNews and #FakeScience with their fake disasters.
As Spock might have said, “Interesting”.
I would suggest this be expanded to Universal time as in,
“Stardates are a mathematical formula which varies depending on location in the galaxy, velocity of travel, and other factors, can vary widely from episode to episode.”
Your only flaw in Trump Time is the limitation to Earth centric time reference.
My mother was a newspaper reporter during the 1920s era. She said that the printers on the newspapers (often without a high-school education) were by-and-large more literate (”better read”) than her fellow reporters. The best educated are the autodidacts.
"From now on, the official language is Swedish."
"All citizens will be required to wear clean underwear every day. Underwear will be worn on the outside, so we can check."
Sure, why not, let's go total gaslight Bizzaro World. Might as well, we're over halfway already
Trumpy New Year
tell a lib that
they will look confused, and then angry
sure why not?
Any Photoshop people out there want to mock one up?
