Every day, women become less of a minority amongst American gun owners. The trend data shows that women feel responsible for their own protection and are taking the necessary steps to ensure it.
Even more interesting is the quietly growing number of females who are participating in self-defense firearms courses that go beyond the basics. What these courses offer are aspects of shooting that relate directly to real life. Spatial and situational awareness as well as firearm manipulation techniques are just a few of those concepts.
The combination of these skill sets begins to introduce a new shooter to thinking outside of the gun. They learn what the guns role needs to be depending on the wide variety of potential situations, and there are a number of ways to incorporate this into your home and range practice. By combining real-to-you environments, distances and manipulation techniques you become better prepared for the world outside of the range. After all, the reason so many women carry and have home-defense firearms is to be prepared if they must use them. Aim to transform your plinking time to reality-inspired training by designing a training plan that builds mental and physical proficiency in your daily life.
Training in Context - To obtain a concealed-carry permit, people must pass proficiency shooting requirements. Those vary from state to state, but most have a minimum standard of 3 to 10 yards. Much of this comes from the self-defense magic number of 7 yards, or 21 feet. Though it does establish a baseline, 7 yards is rather limiting and often becomes a comfort zone that many shooters fail to train beyond. Rarely are the circumstances such that a deadly force encounter occurs at a nice, neat 7 yards, and more importantly, there are other distances that more accurately relate to your unique living situation and are worth considering when building your training regimen.
Grab a measuring tape and reintroduce yourself to your home. What is the shortest, average and longest distance from which an intruder could attack you? For example: The average American bedroom measures 120 square feet and is required by building code R304 to have no less than 7 linear feet in any direction. Translation: The distance from your pillow to the bedroom door could be as little as 4 feet. A stairwell comprised of 16 steps measures roughly 13 feet from the first step to the landing. For some, the longest distance in your home may exceed the 21-foot distance where so many of us are comfortable shooting. Read the rest of women and gun training.

It seems women are gaining a sense of self-responsibility while young men are losing it.
I have always been reluctant to train/instruct women in shooting at the range. I did not want to possible feel responsible for inappropriate actions they may take with guns on innocent people (husbands/boyfriends) or use in a criminal act.
Men commit more crimes than women. I’d think it logical to worry more about instructing a man.
Nice pic and all, she could be behind cover and there’s a perfect opportunity for a rh shooting defensive position right in front and to the left
My daughter got training a few years ago at a very popular range where LEOs go to train. She was the best shot there. You’d never know it to look at her, but that sweet, pudgy, funny, dog-walking woman down the street is a threat to any and all who violate her rights or her property line.
And she’s married to a LEO.
Men protect more people than women, individually and in specific jobs. He’s not wrong.
And women get men to do the dirty work for them. So theres that.
Dont forget to teach your cat gun safety. The book is available at Amazon.
Is it your belief that women are more apt to improperly, or illegally, use a firearm?
I just love Annie Oakly, AKA Annie Moses.

One can at least hope that such actions would not reflect negatively on their trainers.
“And women get men to do the dirty work for them. So there’s that.”
Yes.
Better not train in Virginia.
I thought about taking issue with the photo. Is she better off being visible through the windows? Deterrent to an unarmed threat, or target for an armed one....
My brother used to teach pistol shooting. He said the women were quicker learning than his male students.

But it’s OK to train husbands/boyfriends to take any inappropriate action they may take with guns on innocent wives/girlfriends?
The last husband in our area that shot his wife to death didn’t want to pay child support after he divorced her to run around with other innocent women?
Double standard much?
I didn’t see a /sarc tag, maybe I missed it or MAYBE YOU DID!
Unique woman, that one. The handful of shooting gals Ive known were all good gals.
Ive a sense that shooting skills give a woman a sense of power - immediate, strong, real power - unavailable other ways. And with that comes something that levels them.
Yeah cuz no man in the history of the
world has ever done that to an innocent wife, girlfriend, etc ..
How very ignorant.
Why train?
A certain pResidential candidate seems to push the idea that all one needs is a shotgun...
Just aim and pull the trigger if one feels threatened.
Pity the milkman or meter reader etc etc
