Rates of firearm ownership and gun sales are on the rise despite calls for gun control, according to a report released Wednesday by the Firearms Industry Trade Association (FITA).
Using the most recent data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATFs) Annual Firearms Manufacturing and Export Reports (AFMER) to draw its conclusions, FITAs report stated there are 422.9 million firearms in civilian possession from 1986 to 2018, along with an estimated 8.1 billion rounds of various firearms calibers and gauges.
The report also noted that in a 25 year period between 1993 and 2017, the violent crime rate has dropped by 48.6 percent while firearms-related accidents have decreased by 68 percent.
These figures show the industry that America has a strong desire to continue to purchase firearms for lawful purposes, said Joe Bartozzi, President of the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The Modern Sporting Rifle continues to be the most popular centerfire rifle sold in America today and is clearly a commonly-owned firearm with more than 17 million in legal private ownership today. The continued popularity of handguns demonstrates a strong interest by Americans to protect themselves and their homes, and to participate in the recreational shooting sports.
The report showed more than half of all rifles purchased in 2017 were modern sporting rifles, indicating a strong interest in those types of firearms despite increasing legal obstacles. In fact, some gun shop owners say sales have gone up, not in spite of, but because of many proposals for more restrictive gun control policy.

Firearms here? No Sir, you have the wrong house. We have never owned any firearms...
Going into the 2016 election assuming Clinton would win and also replace Scalia, I topped off ammo at 500 rds per firearm. The exception being 1000 rounds for each 5.56 and 7.62. .22 is closer 2000. Any 2nd amendment supporter was a fool not to have done the same. It is very hard to stop buying with prices being what they are. The Trump respite is great but the leftists gun grabbers are like rust, theyll never stop.
That reminds me...range time on Wednesday. Thanks.

Answer = A good start.
“You know the reason why foreign governments dont invade our country? Because Americans own 423M guns
Mission accomplished-”
The only problem with that is that we are not organized as the Founders wanted. We are not “Well Regulated” as they intended. Able to muster a company/battalion/regiment/division within short while.
How long would it take them to confiscate them all, if they were to start Feb 1, 2021? (allowing for cleanup of the cold, dead hands still attached to bodies).

"At the bottom... of the Channel."
I need to do my part to get those numbers higher
I found this interesting information regarding WW II:
“Lt. Gen. Levin H. Campbell, Jr., Chief of Ordnance from 1942 to 1946, proudly had this to say:
From Pearl Harbor to V-J Day the Industry-Ordnance team furnished to the Army and 43 foreign nations 47 billion rounds of small arms ammunition, approximately 11 million tons of artillery ammunition, more than 12 million rifles and carbines, approximately 750,000 artillery pieces and 3/2 million military vehicles”.
[[The only problem with that is that we are not organized as the Founders wanted.]]
There’s no problem with that- These was actual statements by foreign governments who wanted to attack our nation but didn’t dare- We the people drove the British out of the Nation
It wasn’t the ‘well regulated’ militias that did it- it was farmers, laborers who took up their arms when out nation was attacked and invaded- Statements from foreign nations were along the liens of “They have a gun behind every bush over there”
Rag tag working class people defeated the British and drove them from the land0- sure, the militia did too0 BUT- ordinary non combatant non trained people did too and were a huge reason we are now a free nation and not British subjects
423,000,000!
Man, I need to catch up!
the ‘shot heard around the world’ mobilized ordinary citizens to fight the authorities-
When the nation is threatened- ordinary citizens who are armed will work to defend this nation against foreign military invaders- While it’s true that historically only a small % will do so- enough will do so to defend our nation- and we can thank God that so many guns are available in the hands of ordinary citizens to do so-
The count was higher before all the boating accidents
There are millions upon millions of generations of Americans like ours and all of my guns will go to the next generation after me.
"Because of" you twit.
People with two brain cells know that no one who wants you disarmed ever has benign intentions.
So when you call to take away their weapons they start to stock up.
You would think this would be obvious.
Like a home improvement, car restoration project etc, multiply by 2.5 like you do for true time or cost. 423 x 2.5 & add the zeros, ya that’s probably about right.....
Impressive numbers but aren’t there a great many owners of multiple firearm? My cousin who lives in Westchester County in NY owns seven: an ‘03, a Tanker Garand, 12 gauge , a Walther P38, an M1 Carbine, a SW revolver and a Remington 700. I am sure many here on FB have this and much more.

Gun safes
Storage
Etc
I own warehouses
In the south plenty folks have 3-4 safes
Of course they don't.
Most people have guns that have been handed down and many of them are military weapons. Just the stuff brought home from the World Wars is enough to arm an entire theater (I am not talking the movie kind)
