Rates of firearm ownership and gun sales are on the rise despite calls for gun control, according to a report released Wednesday by the Firearms Industry Trade Association (FITA).
Using the most recent data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATFs) Annual Firearms Manufacturing and Export Reports (AFMER) to draw its conclusions, FITAs report stated there are 422.9 million firearms in civilian possession from 1986 to 2018, along with an estimated 8.1 billion rounds of various firearms calibers and gauges.
The report also noted that in a 25 year period between 1993 and 2017, the violent crime rate has dropped by 48.6 percent while firearms-related accidents have decreased by 68 percent.
These figures show the industry that America has a strong desire to continue to purchase firearms for lawful purposes, said Joe Bartozzi, President of the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The Modern Sporting Rifle continues to be the most popular centerfire rifle sold in America today and is clearly a commonly-owned firearm with more than 17 million in legal private ownership today. The continued popularity of handguns demonstrates a strong interest by Americans to protect themselves and their homes, and to participate in the recreational shooting sports.
The report showed more than half of all rifles purchased in 2017 were modern sporting rifles, indicating a strong interest in those types of firearms despite increasing legal obstacles. In fact, some gun shop owners say sales have gone up, not in spite of, but because of many proposals for more restrictive gun control policy.

[[Americans own 423M guns]]
You know the reason why foreign governments don’t invade our country? Because Americans own 423M guns
Mission accomplished-
If this is accurate, clearly there are a lot of people who need to seriously step up their game on their ammo stash. Thats only about 20 rounds per weapon.
Rates of firearm ownership and gun sales are on the rise despite calls for gun control...

Rates of firearm ownership and gun sales are on the rise because of calls for gun confiscation and illegal acts by the Demagogic Party in Congress...
Thanks PROCON.
I dont think anyone knows
Im guessing we have over a billion firearms
My family has nearly 100
From generations back and so forth
Assuming a lot of those guns are antiques or display items that are never fired/cannot be fired the rounds per weapon would increase.
Example: I own a vintage 1903 shotgun. it is an 8 gage. I can’t buy ammo for it as far as I know. Not that I want to afford anyway. But, it would still be listed as one of those guns that are owned
8.1 Billion rounds? We’re low on ammo!
Yeah, I hate stories like this. They make my ammo locker look pretty darn empty.
“My family has nearly 100.”
Where do you keep something like that?
I would venture to guess there are many more that were uncounted.. such as fully automatic firearms from before the firearms control act of 68.
That is not what the report says. The report says: "An estimated 8.7 billion rounds, of all calibers and gauges, were produced in 2018 for the U.S. market."
Think about it, if let's say 150 million firearm owners collectively owned 8.1 billion rounds, that would only be 54 rounds per owner.
MOLON LABE
Use it right and that’s all you need. This number is way too low! Guns are not like CRT Computer screens or iPhones, where people throw them out when the latest and greatest comes out. . No one say” Hey I got a new Glock for Christmas. Time to throw out my Ruger!” They are only thrown out to coverup a crime. This number is less that 1/4 of the guns that are out there.
well, there goes all the communist-nazi style “confiscation” talk
(half a billion and many more when we include all the off-record pieces.....all capable of defending against any attempted confiscation... after all, its not like the commie/nazis want to try stealing people’s kitchen toasters, ha!!)
or as our neighbor says, “Make My Day, just TRY it!”
fyi: Americans own 423M guns & 8.1B rounds of ammunition, latest data shows.
Your tagline.

CCI has been reported to make 4 million rounds of .22 LR per day. Thats at least a billion rounds right there. One company.
