Dan Bongino launching alternative to Drudge Report (in case you missed it)
The Blaze ^ | 11/27/2019 | staff

Conservative commentator and frequent Fox News contributor Dan Bongino is launching a news aggregator called "Bongino Report," as a competing alternative to the popular Drudge Report, the Daily Caller reported.

Bongino made several tweets promoting his new project on Wednesday, saying "Tired of Drudge? Get ready, the Bongino Report is almost ready for launch," and, "Drudge has abandoned you. I NEVER will."

He added later, "We will be featuring exclusively conservative and libertarian content. In other words, real news. Don't miss the Bongino Report, coming very soon."

FR is, among other things, the best news aggregator on the Internet.

Absolutely spot on. There is no better source of news, any and all news, anywhere on the web. The reason is simple. It is absolutely and completely an open forum for its users. When management posts they do so as a regular user. As a result respect for Jim is always at its zenith.
Monitors protect the site from vulgarity, personal attack - with the exception of hits on HG (who has rino skin) - copyright infringement, and pernicious hatred. I am always able to find the most current articles and comments about any and all issues of the day simply by scrolling posts. Free Republic is the center and heart of the WWW.
The only negative I have is the failure of users to support this site. The fact that we have prolonged fund raisers every quarter is an insult to the site.
Freeloaders who use the site extensively without providing support belittle themselves in the dark corner of their own privacy. I did so for years. Now I am trying to make up for my lack of personal responsibility. See to it you do the same. FR deserves your generous support.

FR is, among other things, the best news aggregator on the Internet.

Once upon a time, this was certainly true. I'm not sure that it applies today. The numbers and quality of the articles posted on FR have declined.

There are many reasons, including a few that I have noticed. Of course, because of copyright complaints, FR adopted rules limiting many article posts to excerpts, or perhaps even only an URL link. Paywalls limit our ability to read the entire article without applying cumbersome work arounds. It has become fashionable among Freepers to read only the excerpt or even only the title. Interesting or engaging threads do not follow from these behaviors and limitations.

Many articles don't generate any discussion, or a limited set of responses that resemble Facebook, Twitter, or News Web sites. Comments of a few words, sentence fragments, or 140 character responses have become the norm. I suspect that many long posts in threads are ignored, too much trouble to read those.

Long threads these days are likely to be tributes to recently passed Freepers or the Q Anon threads. At the last election, the election threads were so lame that I had to go to other sources for basic election results and election analysis was weak or completely absent. Gone are the days when a FR election thread was the only place you needed to go to see how the night was going.

Certainly the Left and the Trolls are quite pleased with this trend, and their efforts to disrupt this forum have had an effect along with the other changes that I have mentioned. Will FR return to its halcyon days? Freepers will decide.

Drudge sold the site to a Chicom company.

It was through Drudge’s “Whitewater” link that led me to FR back in 1997. Little did I know when I clicked that link for the first time it would change my life. YEP. Me too.

Younger crowd. Best memes on the Interwebs (not counting the Chans, where you’d need to wade thru racist rants on a horrible user interface).”

Thanks for the tips. They’re both good!

Yeah, reddit owers hate the_donald but it’s the largest pro Trump site at 800K+ members right now. the mods from the site got together and started thedonald.win -which doesn’t have the quarantine and restrictions from reddit.

There’s a long story behind that. In short, Reddit’s attempt at censorship and keeping pro-Trump messages off their front page. Don’t play into their hands; give it a go.

The mods are building an up an alternative, for when inevitably reddit bans us:

You need an account, but don’t even need to supply an email.

I go to four news aggregating link sites daily to compare how each is handling current events. I like to see all sides of the news to draw my opinions from. Relying on just conservative sites is not enough to get the whole picture sometimes.

Drudge Report has definitely gone to the dark side and is not linking to any positive stories about Trump anymore.

Liberty Daily is very conservative and comprehensive. Lots of stories are linked. But also lots of sponsored ads to sift through.

Whatfinger is pretty good as a conservative source but has lots of ads too.

ProTrumpNews is very good and doesn't have many ads at all currently. But it's content is thin. Not as many stories are linked as the other sites.

Like I said, I go to all four of the sites daily to contrast and compare their coverage of the days events. There are pluses and minuses to each of these news aggregating sites.

That being said, I rely on the best news aggregator site there is, Free Republic, for my daily news. If there is a relevant (and sometimes not so relevant) news story out there, some FReeper will has posted it for us to read and comment on. It is the best conservative news site there is on the internet.

We'll have to see how this new Bongino Report set stacks up against the others when it gets off the ground.

I’m convinced Rush Limbaugh’s stack of reports is just a compilation of FR articles

You wouldn't be the only one who thinks that. There have been a number of times (I've lost count ....) where I and others have either read or posted something on FR that ended up on Rush's next show.

I'm of the opinion that either Rush or one of his show prep people reads FR fairly regularly. I could be wrong of course.

I wish Bongino success, and hope he adjusts his content mix to make it work.

The best thing about the original Drudge Report was the way Drudge juxtaposed stories for ironic effect, in ways that often made a laughingstock of one, the other, or both.

IMO, FR’s great mix of conservative AND leftist content, gives us a glimpse of what the lefty nuts up to, without wallowing in it. We are better served knowing that, than staying in a conservative-only comfort zone.

You are sadly right......

Average thread is now less than fifty whereas a hit thread use to fifty a minute and would freeze the forum

Still the best forum management

And it’s a club

Breitbart is impersonal and had whacked out algorithms and moderation

Stupid key words cause review

Jewish will call review in an instant even if it’s the topic

Guns too and so on

Anything gay too triggers a review
And mentioning this site will get your post deleted instantly

It’s stupid

There is a group of maybe a dozen posters who reply first on every thread who I’m guessing work there

Posters here don’t read the articles

There it’s worse.....some canard repeated over and over

Although like here most mean well and have their mind fairly right
Just not much on detail let alone nuance

Free republic has loads of competition now but none better or equal as a forum

Some major stories don’t get posted here

We have 5-6 posters who account for 90% of the content and I think one died recently

Not true.

Drudge Report
Bongino Report
Whatfinger
Yahoo
MSN

FR is the best news aggregator of all.

I always start at FR and go from here. FR is the best because the news is driven by users, not some preconceived notion or agenda.
