This is Your Brain on Birth Control, a new book by Dr. Sara E. Hill takes a remarkably deep dive into the myriad ways that hormonal contraception alters womens bodies, demonstrating that our sex hormones have an enormous impact on how our brains and bodies function. As we learn more about the consequences of altering womens hormonal balance with contraception, weve come to find that those consequences can be very serious, indeedin some cases, even fatal. Although the book is about the consequences of meddling with the hormones of women of reproductive age, it should also serve as a cautionary tale against male contraception and the risks of fiddling with mens hormones.
While womens sex hormones (estrogen and progesterone) tend to get more attention because of their relationship to the monthly cycle and to pregnancy, mens sex hormones (primarily testosterone), are often something of an afterthought (unless a man is experiencing some form of sexual dysfunction or infertility), mostly because they dont cycle on a monthly basis as womens do. But interesting research about mens changing testosterone levels in response to fatherhood shows that mens hormones drive their brains and bodies as much as womens. Testosterone appears to have an impact on who men are the same way that estrogen and progesterone do on women.
For instance, a 2011 study came to the following conclusions:
Single nonfathers with higher T [testosterone] at baseline were more likely to be partnered fathers 4.5 [years] later. After becoming partnered fathers, these men experienced dramatic reductions in both waking and evening T, which were substantially greater than the age-related declines observed in single nonfathers. Our finding that caregiving fathers had lower than fathers who did not invest in care supports the hypothesis that father-child interaction likely contributes to suppressed paternal T among fathers.

I think it is something they put in the wedding cake.
“I think it is something they put in the wedding cake.”
The surest way to diminish a woman’s sex drive is to marry her. No wonder a man’s testosterone decreases!
After child birth, a woman’s body goes through some chemical changes that help the woman forget about the pain of the experience, thus, making it more likely that the woman will be willing to do it again.
It seems the same thing happens to men after a divorce.
Man, I feel like a woman.
Too funny. I suppose it could explain a lot in my life, although I lean towards other legends, LOL.
There may be something to that. I've commented to my friends about how I start forgetting the 'bad things' about the girlfriend or wife when we have an argument and split. I can remember only the good things and how I'm missing them.
I've been married and divorced three times.(no more!)
Be assured that your Ex's remember everything and can pull something from their memory data bank at will.
after a divorce - too funny
Miracle food that instantly cuts a woman’s sex drive in half....wedding cake.
Mine must have eaten a dozen servings then.
As it was explained to me:
Men are like bridges and women are like buckets. Arguments are like drops of water. When a man fights, the water passes under the bridge and is forgotten over time. When a woman fights, the water is collected in a bucket.
When your bucket fills up, the relationship is over.
Women have loooooooooong memories. Especially of bad things you did
“becoming a father is associated with a large drop in a mans testosterone levels”
perhaps getting the shit nagged out of you 24x7x365 might have something to do with that ...
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit
The alimony deduction on every pay stub keeps my memory fresh.
Glad I could grant you both a chuckle over the Thanksgiving weekend. I hope that my post remains a joke and not an instruction manual. Hope you both had a wonderful day of thanks.
What’s the difference between a Vitamin and Hormone?
You can’t make a vita min.
