Many of you are aware that I'm afflicted with stage four cancer, and that I have chosen the alternative healing route instead of conventional treatments.
Well, I've gone further downhill since I informed FR of my condition some months back. I'm now going to require outside assistance to manage the pain.
I know nothing about hospice, except that they come into the home to help patients with pain, et cetera. What I don't know is what the potential risks exist when using such a service.
Will they report back to Big Brother about what they saw in your gun closet? Are they required to by law?
Are they required to assess your mental state? What happens if they generate a negative report on you? Who sees and responds to such reports? What type of response can one reasonably expect from such a report being filed on them?
I just don't want my last act on this earth to boomerang on my loved ones.
I had a friend whose Mom was in Hospice and the Pain Mgt nurse was pinching pain meds from his Mom. While she was drugged out, they did sort of scan the apartment for what might be handy to fence. Regarding Guns, I would make them invisible to any outside person. That includes and gun safe.
Hey FRiend...
Sorry to hear that things are going down...
I know nothing about Hospice, so I can’t help you there, but.....
I pray that you get a decent, caring person to help you on your journey...
I pray they are able to ease your pain...
Why would you do that? Do hospice workers ordinarily snoop in your closets while they're in your home?
Are they required to by law?
Who do they report to, and can those they report to, order a SWAT hit on your house?
Fire Arms,
Lockem up, sell em, give them to kin.
As mentioned lot of in home health peeps are looser, screen them well
Best too ya sorry for your pain
Check with Catholic Social Services in your area.................
Thank you, JB.
As always, discretion is your best course of action. There's no reason for a hospice nurse to be poking around in your closet, so if you don't leave any ... items ... in plain sight, they shouldn't even know about them.
If they start asking too many questions, fire them and ask for someone else. It's your home and your life. You don't have to justify it to any busybodies.
And may your days be pain-free and serene.
You are very welcome, old FRiend...
First of all, you and your family are in our prayers. My wife and I have had two hospice experiences for elderly parents, and both were positive. The focus in both cases was pain management, and the visiting hospice nurses were conscientious and not at all interested in matters such as your 2A beliefs. God bless you.
Why them, and not some other hospice care outfit? Are they better than all the rest?
Sorry to hear about your situation. My Mom went through in home hospice and it turned out well. There was no problem with the pain meds (she had a morphine pump) and we (the family) were given more to augment that.
There wasn’t any issue with anything.
I am very sorry to hear about your situation. I am a physician and think hospice is wonderful for patients with a terminal disease. They are wonderful people whose only mission is to make you comfortable and be able to spend time with your family. My mom was cared for them at the end of her life.
That being said, they are bound by privacy laws so unless you are doing something patently illegal they can’t report anything.
Best of luck.
Prayers for you and yours.
We got a pamphlet on how to tell when someone was about to die. Very accurate...especially the blue fingers part of it. Knew the day it was going to happen.
They basically were willing to provide as much morphine as patient wanted..almost to the point of tacitly crossing a line, IMO. They were never alone in the house to go rummaging around so that wasn’t a problem. Our person didnt want to be heavily medicated.
You might want to get a rental hospital bed. That was helpful. You can set it up in the living room if you want.
Thanks, Jack. That's pretty much my plan, but I want to know how much legal and governmental authority these hospice outfits can bring to bear against a person, if they see or hear something they don't like.
Like that huge Trump banner in my garage ;-)
May the HEALING HAND of OUR LORD touch you....
Thank you, friend. That eases my mind a bit.
I would think their contacts would be more Christian-like and trustworthy than some commercial organization that just wants to make some dough.............
Thank you. That's exactly the sort of info I'm looking for.
