Congress fell short Thursday in its second attempt to end the national emergency President Donald Trump declared to secure money for his proposed border wall.
Both chambers of Congress have passed measures to block Trumps declaration twice since the president took the step in March, prompting two vetoes. Lawmakers failed to override the second veto Thursday as the GOP-held Senate could not muster the two-thirds majority needed.
The chamber voted by a 53-36 margin to end the emergency. Ten Republicans voted with Democrats in supporting the resolution.
Democrats and some Republicans have accused the president of overreaching and disregarding Congress power of the purse by declaring the national emergency. A federal judge ruled Friday that Trump violated the law by using the declaration to divert money to wall construction though the ruling will not affect a major chunk of the funds he hopes to use for the barrier.

“Congress fails to keep US military from defending the US.”
truth and needed repeating
Blunt is mine and I hate him but the farmers love him and who likes illegal aliens? Big AG.
Not up for re-election in 2020 either, else he wouldn’t have done this. If this came up in 2021 after Trump wins in a landslide, Blunt would have voted differently. He ain’t dumb. He’s like McConnell, a true politician but only a true representative of the people when he has to be.
So if North Korea lobs a missile at us he should wait for congressional authorization to strike back?
Thanks for the comment and expansion of the point, very interesting observations
It’s not a problem ... as soon as that insanity is passed on to the Senate it’s dead on arrival.
Congress did appropriate the money to the Pentagon.
Some of that money is now being used by the Army Corps of Engineers to award contracts for construction of the security barriers on our Southern border.
The appropriated funds are being used where needed.
Read my post #47, please.
Well, does that mean that the vote of the House of Representatives met the two-thirds requirement? If so, a whole lot of Repubs would have had to have crossed over to vote with the Progs ...
F#*k!! I knew it!
Well that explains it?

That’s probably a good indication of how an impeachment vote might go - nowhere near the 2/3 they need to commit treason against the People.
