Consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble faces pressure from environmentalists to clean up its act.
More than 150 groups are pushing the maker of Charmin toiler paper and Bounty paper towels to use recycled materials in its products. Currently, neither of those products uses recycled paper, and about one-third of it is sourced from Canada's boreal forest a large swath of virgin forest that rings the Arctic Circle and acts as a critical check on climate change.
"It's just unacceptable that a company like P&G is making toilet paper, a product that is used for seconds and flushed, from virgin pulp," said Shelley Vinyard, boreal corporate campaign manager for the Natural Resources Defense Council and one of several dozen protesters at P&G's annual shareholders meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Tuesday. The NRDC likens Canada's vast forests to "the Amazon of North." Replacing just half of P&G's virgin pulp usage with recycled content "would dwarf the company's current climate commitments," the NRDC said in a letter to the company that was co-signed by 150 other activist groups.
P&G offers a simple reason for not using recycled wood pulp: It doesn't make for good toilet paper.
"Have you tried recycled toilet paper yourself?" a P&G spokeswoman asked CBS MoneyWatch who also pointed to Charmin as a superior product. "I promise you'll enjoy it much more," she said...MORE

Leave Charmin alone! And I’d like to add strong is better than soft.
Charmin leaves dingle berries.
This particular enviro move is hitting pretty close to home.
“... and acts as a critical check on climate change.”
BS. No such thing.
A certain forest acts as a critical check on climate change?
Proof? Evidence?
Lying scum.
“Boreal forest”
What other kind of forest is there? Petrified? Rough TP from that one.
The Sheryl Crow rule is now in effect. One square only, please.
Hollywood demands we use only one sheet.
Unless you are in LA where all you need to do is drop um and let fly.
Umm... Uh-huh. Sure...
“Unacceptable” to whom? The enviros? Just one more reason to use virgin pulp!
If environmentalists really cared about the environment, they’d support legalizing industrial hemp.
Only one sheet of Charmin?
Now we have enviro extremists going after toilet paper?
Now I recall some celebrity said to use just one square of toilet paper to help the environment.
Not to get graphic, but some bathroom trips may require a few squares to do the job.
Temperate forests, tropical rainforests.
“More than 150 groups...”
P & G tells more than 150 groups to KMA.
Yep, wipe wisely.
In case you missed it from 2007:
Time for me to switch to Charmin.
A bunch of well to do mostly White tree huggers lecturing us on what we should wipe our butts with. They say they’re woke yet the Sierra Club, WWF, Friends of the Earth look like Whites only clubs. Hell I see more diversity at a NASCAR race.
