The P365 was selected by the NRA's Shooting Illustrated Magazine as their Golden Bullseye winner for 2019 Handgun of the Year. You can take their word or maybe you take a P365 out for a run. The following are remarks and comments from other shooters. Many of these shooters like comparing one to another to get a gauge for performance and any function differences. The Sig P365 9mm came out to serve the needs of the majority. A compact size pistol for CCW with good accuracy and reliability. Usually, most would think of Glocks as the industry standard.
Grip
Some are saying the P365 is either smaller or about the same size as the Glock43 with an extra 4 round capacity. The trigger grip is supposed to be more comfortable due to its design. Word has it that the P365 takes some of its design cues from the X-Series of P320 pistols particularly in its stippling and the smooth undercut of the trigger guard. The undercut allows the shooter to get an even higher grip on the gun for greater control and flatter shooting.
While there is positive feedback there are some negative. Some shooters had complain about the slide-lock lever brushing up on the support-hand thumb knuckle when using a high forward support hand.
Trigger
The trigger press when fired was quick and easy. Manufacture trigger pull info comes in at 6 pounds. Many shooters stated, "the feel was lighter than that."
Trigger reset is short and distinct. Initial take-up of the trigger is light and free. The travel of the trigger once you feel the resistance in the stroke is about a quarter-inch. Pressing the trigger through the stroke is smooth and even. Once it breaks there is no over-travel.
The length of pull for shooters with small hands will have no problem working the trigger, and larger-handed folks will be able to use it comfortably. Read the rest of Sig P365 review.
There is a manual safety model available.
I also prefer DA/SA. What did you end up with?

That’s my issue as well.
I understand why people don’t want a thumb safety, but weighing the risk/reward of that .25 second loss and the very real concern with an accidental fire made me chose a Ruger SR40c in most states where I carry.
In NYC, I’m limited to a revolver (.357 7 shot) because my lawyer knew he could get a revolver permitted. Lot better than no pistol!
I proper holster (IWB or OWB) that guards the trigger and has proper retention, along with good trigger finger discipline, solves the AD issue, but everyone has to decide what they are comfortable with.
And any gun is better than no gun when you need it. ;)

Striker fired pistols never have a decent trigger.
None I’ve ever fired.
Every pull is a double action pull. The most you can hope for is a predictable, consistent break.
I bought the Ruger EC9 for $200 new. What does the Sig give me? 10 rounds versus 7. Is that worth another $500 to me?
For me, no. I often carry a 5-shot J-frame so I obviously don't care very much for extra rounds. Apart from an active shooter scenario, my self-defense gun is a "get off me" gun. I don't sweat larger capacity so I don't need to spend another $500 to replicate a gun I already have - except for 10 rounds instead of 7.
Other people, other threat environments - I'm retired & semi-rural - may value the extra rounds. My standard "Go to church" gun, which is more of the active shooter scenario, is a Glock 27. Since I like DA/SA, I may buy a Bersa Thunder UC for my church gun. 10 rounds of 40 S&W with a DA/SA trigger. It is wider than a Sig 365 and a little longer and taller, but it gives me things I don't have in a J-frame or EC9 or Glock 27.
Is this pistol SA only or DA/SA? Is there an external safety and, if so, how does it work? Thanks for your answers.
P365 is a Stryker-fired weapon. Similar in design to a double-action hammered weapon.
I carry a G43 and am curious about this gun. Will have to check it out at the next gun show
Oh, I don’t disagree.
I had an incident (before really good IWB holsters were common)when my Glock dropped out sitting down in my car, fell down between the seat and the console and hung up (facing up) with a bolt sticking inside the trigger guard.
Took some effort and crawling around from the back seat to remove it without incident.
Bought the Ruger the next Sunday and the Glock became a desk gun.
glocks perform two actions when you pull the trigger: cock the striker spring, and release it. that technically classifies it as double action.
...on the other hand, springfield XD's are single action: racking the slide "cocks" the striker spring, while pulling the trigger simply releases it and therefore only performs one action.
Most of these types of guns, Sig P365 included, are generally referred to as double action despite the way the function internally. You pull the trigger and get one shot and a complete cycle which readies the next shot. They do not have an external safety.
I’m getting one. I shot my son’s at a range in Texas recently. While not the best pistol shot, after a few test rounds to get use to it, I was in the black every time at 7 yards. The trigger is great for a gun this size and the sights are just amazing! His had no thumb safety, so as an old 1911 guy I’m waiting for one of the newer ones with the safety.
Sig made a decision to break into the slim compact market and they came in with what I would say are improvements over the Glock at a very competitive break in price. I like my Glocks so that’s saying a lot, but then I like other stuff too.
The Glock 43 comes standard with plastic sights. I don’t tolerate those, so they immediately get upgraded to tritium iron. The Sig came standard with tritium iron, very nice for the price. I am not selling Sig, so I wont bore you with details, but I think Sig took getting into this class of gun market seriously, and between the G43 and P365, Sig is giving Glock real competition.
I own about a dozen Sigs and I’ve had a 365 since the first shipment arrived at my local gun store. For a CC gun, I don’t really have a problem with the trigger. It’s not the best I’ve ever shot, but it certainly isn’t the worst either.
Small but is it really a “pocket carry?”
What I expect from a pocket carry pistol is some that fits comfortably into my front jeans pocket. A 9mm is just too big to start with to meet this criteria. Then add a larger magazine and you have to carry Irvin a IWB holster. IWB holsters are still visible and may fail the concealed carry requirement of not being seen.
Lol. I hate auto complete. Heck even with auto complete I can still type 100x faster. I hate it!
Agree completely, the EC9 (not its sibling, the LC9) was my choice as well. Spent over an hour at the gun show testing every available pocket9 trigger. EC9 had the smoothest, most predictable trigger I could find. I added an extended magazine with a pinky rest for $31.
It’s only slightly larger than the .22 Beretta Bobcat I’ve pocket carried for years.
I was tempted several times to get the Ruger. I mean at $200 its almost a throw away gun. But then I’d try it at the store, and the trigger never feels right. Too much creep or not smooth. I’d mention it to any of the dealers and the reply is always the same. “That’s what you get for $200.” I’m just picky about consistent, smooth, trigger press and reset. The Ruger never quite satisfied. I dont want to spent $200 on a gun and then another $300 to upgrade triggers/parts. But clearly there is a market out there for the less expensive pistol.
It is not the time to take a gun off safe that puts me off having a safety in a self-defense firearm. It is that I can’t guarantee I will remember to deactivate the safety in the stress of a life and death encounter. Sure you can try to train for it, but you just can’t guarantee you will have the presence of mind to take the safety off when that machete wielding perp is closing in on your 21-foot buffer distance.
Without a safety, you aim and go bang. With a safety, if for any reason during the stress of combat you forget to take off the safety, you aim and go “what? huh?” And that can be the difference between life and death.
Kudos to all you who know you will not have the problem. With me, I can’t so guarantee and so I would rather have a semi-auto that behaves like a revolver. Aim and go bang and use your trigger finger for a safety. Off target, off trigger.
