If he is the nominee, he will wake up on the morning of November 4th thinking he is the President-Elect. When he went to bed only the results from New England had been reported and he was sure he was going to win in a landslide.
In 1916, Charles Evans Hughes went to bed on election night thinking that he had won, and only found out the next morning that he had lost. (He lost California very narrowly--if he had won California he would have become the next President.)
