With so much food to eat, whats a hungry person to do?
Thats a question sure to be raised continuously as the 138th Maryland State Fair runs through Labor Day at the state fairgrounds in Timonium. Sure, theres tons of fun to be had roaming the grounds, checking out the livestock, riding a carousel or Ferris Wheel, trying your hand at the ring toss, even checking out a horse race or two.
Inevitably, however, the time is going to come when your stomach demands attention. Its time to eat.
So you head for the Maryland Foods Pavilion, home to some of the best eats the Free State has to offer. And while youre far from disappointed by the offerings, youre probably overwhelmed by the choices. Thats where we can help.
As a public service to hungry Marylanders converging on Timonium, Baltimore Sun reporters Chris Kaltenbach and Sameer Rao offer up their thoughts on how the food fare at the Maryland State Fair fares. Eat hearty!

I see your crab cakes and raise you deep-fried Wisconsin cheese curds, brats, and Kringles.
Bacon-on-a-stick at MN State Fair. Big fat dripping slice 1cm thick.
Hahahaha...I went to the Champlain Valley Fair up in Vermont today, and there was so much bad food there.
My default at these kinds of things is usually an Italian Sausage and a Fried Dough, but...the Italian Sausage was terrible. Ugh, completely unsatisfying. They obviously aren’t using the Bianchi Brothers sausages from Revere, MA...
Fried dough was okay. I also got a maple milkshake, which was not bad.
Just eating bad food is all...:)
I saw bacon-on-a-stick today and almost got one!
Are the Somalis OK with that?
Cannoli and calzones and pizza with all kinds of crazy toppings :)
I always headed to the Maryland Lamb stand. I love lamb and grilled on the spot lamb is splendid.
The soft crab on a crab cake sandwich looks fantastic.
Try the chocolate dipped bacon at the MN State Fair!
(going tomorrow!)
The best thing about the Maryland State Fair is going to Michael’s Cafe across the street where you can have the best crab cakes and crab soup in town.
No kale?
What is a Kringle?
Why is it capitalized?
Heart attack hell ?
If you like crab cakes go to G&M restaurant between the airport and I-95. When I have the unfortunate situation of visiting the Freak State it is the first stop for a meal or takeaway.
Ping!
At the Minnesota State Fair you can buy all kinds of food on a stick.
