Full Title: Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on El Paso Shooting: "What Do We Expect" When Kids Play Video Games Instead Of Going To Church?

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, a Republican, told "FOX & Friends" Sunday morning that the mass shooting the previous day at an El Paso Wal-Mart was partially the result of the murderer living out a "super-soldier fantasy" he had learned from the video game series "Call Of Duty."

"This was maybe a video game to this evil demon. A video game to him. He has no sense of humanity, no sense of life. He wanted to be a super soldier, for his Call of Duty game," he said about the shooter. "As long as we continue to only praise God and look at God on a Sunday morning and kick him out of the town square at our schools the other six days of the week, what do we expect?"

"How long are we going to ignore at the federal level... something about the video game industry?" Patrick asked....

"So we need to look at all of this and who we are and as long as we continue to only praise God and look at God on a Sunday morning and kick him out of the town square at our schools the other six days of the week, what do we expect? What do we expect? There’s no excuse for this. We condemn it totally, but as a nation, we have to look at this and leave all of the politics out of it."

I’ll bet Patrick played cops and robbers, and “war” as a child. What a putz.

“One in 2014 and another last year and both shooters were avid video game players.”

Yea, I think it’s difficult for parents to accept what video games are doing to kids, since the vast majority of parents use video games as a form of daycare, to keep the kids off their backs...so we’re seeing defensive responses from parents here, and in other places.

It reminds me of telling other parents that public schools are horrible places for kids. They treat you like you’re from another planet until you realize (in my case 20 years later) that they hear it completely differently. What they hear is the following:
“You are horrible, abusive, parents, for sending your kids to public schools.”

Once I figured the above out, my attitude became f-them, my non-public schooled kids are light years ahead of where their pajama boys will ever be and I simply no longer a give a crap about those other kids.

There is FAAAAR more violence and devaluation of human life NOW vs the early 60s when the leftwing communists began their assault on God and His Judeo-Christian morals and values that America was founded on and made her GREAT.

Electrodes hooked up to the game, to cause searing pain whenever the gamer gets wounded.?

Waiting periods for video games, with a mental health check prior to delivery?

Maybe there is a connection between drinking diet coke while gaming?

Personally, drinking yuban while reading some of the replies on this site makes me want to go out and destroy some life form, need to ban yuban, and prolly need to self analyze.

That is also part of the problem, also when you have 10 YO with smart phones with access to the internet. Many parents use computers as as babysitters for their kids because they can’t be bothered with supervision. They may not take their kid to a strip bar yet that can easily be accessed on their smart phone. Yes, lack of supervision is a big problem.

There is certainly some linkage, but the essence of the problem is something involving positive motivations, which we are not doing.

George Washington urged the Swiss system; i.e. arming and training our youth as part of their preparation for responsible citizenship. He specifically recognized the moral character building aspects of the Swiss system. As you may know, Switzerland has, traditionally, had an extremely low crime rate.

Right & Duty To Keep & Bear Arms.

(See, in the above, Washington's sage advice to Congress, It indicates the dangerous omission in 21st Century America. The point is essential to counter the Leftist hand wringing assault on our liberty; an essential key to a truly American future.)

“They also breathed air.....Ban Air!”

I would agree with you if we’ve had ~20 year old boys breathing air for thousands of years and have had them being mass killers for just as long - but we haven’t.

But in the case of violent video games, there CLEARLY is a correlation between the increasing popularity and ‘quality’ of those games and the increasing mass killings by those boys.

Whether it is the CAUSE, or even a factor, can be debated, but the correlation is there, whether parents want to deal with it or not.

yep I remember cowboys and Indians.

We also played World War II sometimes, and somebody would be the “Japs” . Today my friends and I would be in big trouble for having the “Japs” in our game.

Probably cowboys and Indians is banned nowadays too.

It’s likely that only sick minds can’t differentiate between video games and people. A move away from faith is part of it. The devaluation of life itself.

A certain % of the populace can’t handle social media, the 24 hour news cycle, or violent video games. These things just aren’t going away. This is going to keep happening, nothing is going to stop it.

The incidents of general violent crime is way down. Some theorize that electronic entertainment options in the last 20+ years has occupied many of the folks who would otherwise be on the street committing crimes. On the other hand, I don’t think it is far fetched that a % of disturbed people are influenced by violent things they see even if it is make believe violent things like movies and video games.

There’s no easy answers. It can’t come from government, it has to come from We the People.

The sad fact is, at least for now, Satan owns this world.
