Full Title: Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on El Paso Shooting: "What Do We Expect" When Kids Play Video Games Instead Of Going To Church?

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, a Republican, told "FOX & Friends" Sunday morning that the mass shooting the previous day at an El Paso Wal-Mart was partially the result of the murderer living out a "super-soldier fantasy" he had learned from the video game series "Call Of Duty."

"This was maybe a video game to this evil demon. A video game to him. He has no sense of humanity, no sense of life. He wanted to be a super soldier, for his Call of Duty game," he said about the shooter. "As long as we continue to only praise God and look at God on a Sunday morning and kick him out of the town square at our schools the other six days of the week, what do we expect?"

"How long are we going to ignore at the federal level... something about the video game industry?" Patrick asked....

"So we need to look at all of this and who we are and as long as we continue to only praise God and look at God on a Sunday morning and kick him out of the town square at our schools the other six days of the week, what do we expect? What do we expect? There’s no excuse for this. We condemn it totally, but as a nation, we have to look at this and leave all of the politics out of it."

Sorry, but if your raise kids playing games where they literally Kill other people... more and more realistically with every version, do not think this will have zero impact.

IN WWI the Army had a problem, they were finding that when faced with killing another human being in combat, that many of their troops were hesitating to pull the trigger.... They switched from using traditional circular targets, to human shaped ones, and found this hesitation lessened... They conditioned their troops to shoot at human shapes without thought.

The studies on this are out there for you to see if you want.

Imagine now if you will, you have millions of children being conditioned to pull the trigger to “kill” as lifelike a rendition of another human as possible, for entertainment... and are rewarded instantaneously with an endorphine and dopamine release for that kill. You think that has no impact? Particularly on those on the margins of the bell curve?

If you do, you are indeed a fool.

No, there is not on single “cause” for these things, but do not think for one minute that modern shooter video games have no impact, or play no role in this kind of crap.

the fact that shooter video games have not turned 500 million ps4 owners into rampage killers does not therefore mean that these games never give an unhealthy psychological nudge into darkness to those that may already be clinically unsteady — especially teenagers, who can be erratic in the first place.

so, maybe we can forgo the next 50 replies where people with an xbox indignantly deny that they have ever committed a slaughter in a movie theater crowded with people.

Video games aren’t the root of the problem. It’s lack of parenting, most notably the lack of a strong, responsible father in the picture.

Blaming video games is as stupid as blaming guns.

***by blaming the shooting on a video game. ***

Nothing new. John Kennedy’s death by a Communist sympathizer, was blamed on 1950s and early 1960s TV “violence”, movie violence, comic books and pulp fiction.

Then when Bobby Kennedy was murdered by a Palestinian immigrant, it was blamed on the same. To avoid government supervision, comic books changed, pulp fiction got rid of their blood soaked covers, TV shows dumbed down to kiddie shows.

Only Movies got a pass with a joke of a ratings system. they then began to add more blood, guts and sex to get the coveted “R” rating.

1960s movie and TV shows were very mild compared to today’s shows.

“As long as we continue to only praise God and look at God on a Sunday morning and kick him out of the town square at our schools the other six days of the week, what do we expect?”

Hard to disagree with that.

Somalia is the way it is because of video games.

I heard Pol Pot was a big gamer too.

It’s obvious these video games won’t transform most everyone that plays them into a monster. But do tell me, what are the benefits of some 10y/o, etc. playing a violent video game where he/she is consumed with blood and guts? Answer-zero benefits.

IMO, video games is a part of the decades & decades of cultural rot that has devalued life in our society.

It began in the 60s when the leftists declared war on God...and has only increased in intensity since that day.

Add the rot from public education/indoctrination, “entertainment”, homosexuality, pedophilia and destroying the concept of male/female.

Our culture today is simply the sum of the satanic rot we have been subjected to the last 50+ years.

Hitler was quite the gamer too, that’s what he built the bunker for in the first place.

I don't know. We played Cowboys and Indians when we were young. When we got a bit older we got to shoot real guns at Coney Island. TV and Movies featured Westerns like "Have Gun, Will Travel." Guns were much more readily available. But somehow event like these didn't happen very often.

We used to institutionalize people with mental problems and religion played a much larger role in people's lives than it does today. There was no prevailing, "if it feels good, do it," attitude. And guns weren't demonized they way they are today. I think these are among the things we have to roll back first.

Violence and war are the norms of human society, peace is the unfortunate outlier.

If you believe this, where are the other millions of mass shooters?.....

You can say this about anything.

Millions of gun enthusiasts.
Millions of people driving SUVs
Millions of people using knives to slaughter or carving up animals in small pieces.

The point is that the people who commit these murders are defects to the human race or society.

The 99.9% non-defects do not commit these murders.

The key is to figure out how recognize the defective people who cannot handle the responsibility of being alive.

This is probably an impossible task at this point in time.

Many of these violent video games are being played by young kids7-8 and 9 year olds. They can be very damaging to a young child. Sure, adults should be able to entertain themselves as they wish, but, a young mind is another story.
