Ive written at length about why I think reparations are absolutely assinine.
Who gets them? Who pays for them? How do we prove the right people are receiving them? Why are others being punished for something they had no part in?
So many questions with no right answer. Reparations simply dont make sense.
But Democrats dont really care about what makes sense. They care about what creates and reinforces victimhood status
So theyre asking Danny Glover, a MILLIONARE actor, to come speak on behalf of reparations for African Americans.
You heard that right. A man whose reported net worth is more than 400 times that of the average American will now speak on why white people owe black people money.
According to NBC:
The House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties is scheduled to hold the hearing next Wednesday, its stated purpose to examine, through open and constructive discourse, the legacy of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, its continuing impact on the community and the path to restorative justice. The date of the hearing, June 19, coincides with Juneteenth, a cultural holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved black people in America.
Former Democratic Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, the longtime sponsor of House Resolution 40, first proposed the measure calling for a study of reparations in 1989. Conyers reintroduced the bill every session until his resignation in 2017.
Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, the resolutions new sponsor, introduced it earlier this year and pushed for next weeks hearing. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in February that she supports a reparations study, a topic that hasnt been the subject of a House hearing since 2007.
Reparations had been a fringe issue and occasional punchline until Coates 2014 essay in The Atlantic, The Case for Reparations, thrust the topic back into the national discourse. Glover, an activist as well as the star of the Lethal Weapon movies and the classics The Color Purple and A Rage in Harlem, has spoken in favor of the issue for years.
Clearly, Glovers immense wealth is a sure sign that black people simply cannot succeed in America
Or something.

Oprah wasn’t available? *SNORT*
no reparations without repatriation
BTTT!
Just keep picking at that scab democrats until you make a bloody mess out of everything.
I’m glad the question was brought up.
Your “Dear Danny” letter is a simple way to answer the question “On what basis are “reparations” Constitutionally permitted.”
We can talk all day long about racism, why reparations would and would not be practical, etc etc, blah blah blah, but the discussion needs to be pushed in the direction of the Constitutional threshold. If I am not mistaken, there are court cases where companies paid damages for the Holocaust and were payable to victims or their families. On the surface, one institution is still around that was pro-slavery - the demokraps. They will scream that all the slave owners went to the GOP (ROFLMAO), but too bad ... their party needs to come clean, own up to their historical beliefs/roots in slavery, and pay reparations, ... if there is a Constitutional basis to bring the action before a court, or to allow Congress to pass a law that will allow said reparations. This reparations discussion will be great if the GOP can keep the focus on the demokraps history in slavery and how it was a GOP POTUS that ended it.
Put your flame suit on. Some here dont like to hear that
Still does. Wifey filled his seat
“Black people ought to kiss the ground here and be thankful that somewhere in their families distant past an ancestor was driven from his African home by an Arab muslim and sold to a waiting ship, bringing him the the US.”
One small clarification:
NOT the U.S. necessarily, rather, the territory occupied by the Dutch, French, Spanish and British - PRIOR to becoming the U.S...
oh yeah... the U.S. who MADE THEM ALL FREE..
Conyers resigned over sexual harassment charges. He should have been charged with treason. He was Moscow/KGB’s man in congress. See WWW.keywiki.org search under his name for the facts.
"Thank God my grandaddy got on that boat!" - Muhammad Ali
Considering they were already enslaved when european slave traders purchased them, i think they should try and get reparations from the arabs or current inhabitants of africa
1. My ancestors were too poor to own slaves. Therefore not one cent of my money should go to reparations.
2. Not all blacks in the US are descended from slaves and should not get reparations.
3. Many men fought and died to end slavery therefore their ancestors should be exempt from paying reparations.
4. Decades of affirmative action and social programs were a form of reparations therefore no additional reparations should be paid to anyone.
5. Why are they not going after the descendants of the Africans who sold their fellow Africans into slavery?
America was the first country to end chattel slavery and Republicans are the people who did it - the Republican party was begun because of the Democrat need to have slaves.
I think that distinction actually goes to the French and English
I remember Danny Glover picking cotton before the Civil War just like it was yesterday.
Let’s see. I can support “reparations” if it works like this: “Reparations” means making amends by paying money to an aggrieved party. So, having made amends, the issues related are to be considered by all, including the aggrieved, to be set right. The slate is wiped clean, because that is what the recipient of reparations agrees to. So, no more claims of racism, no more whining about America’s slave holding past, no affirmative action, no “white privilege”, no preferential treatment, no quotas. I”m sure all of you can add to this list of what would be permanently and forever off the table. Solved. Made whole.
In 2 years the people who had the money in the first place would have it all back anyway.
I think that distinction actually goes to the French and English who learned it from the Arabs in the 8th century
The next career path of Actors these days is politics.....sort of like the 'hood' goes into the music or sports industry..
I thought we were talking about the ending of slavery?
