Why is male reproductive health declining?

Male reproductive health has been in decline since the 1960’s. Once considered a global problem by the 1992 study “Evidence for decreasing quality of semen during past 50 years,”[i] it has been shown that the decline in semen quality is largely limited to Western countries.[ii]

Specific studies, largely carried out in the 90′s, showed falling sperm counts:

- in Belgium— where the “percentage of candidate donors with sperm characteristics below the 5th percentile cut-off value of a normal fertile population increased from 13 to 54% during the [19 year] observation period.”[iii]

- in Canada — where overall sperm quality showed “a significant downward trend in sperm concentration among 48,968 samples from Canadian men.”[iv]

- in Spain — where “a statistically significant decline was observed in the percentage of normal spermatozoa” between 1960 and 1996.[v]

- in France: Arecent study of over 26,600 samples found that the average sperm count of a man living there dropped by a third between 1989 and 2005.[vi]

- in Scotland[vii] and in Denmark[viii]– to name a few other.

In the same places, and over the same time periods, there have been noted increases in male reproductive diseases. A 2003 study showed that the rate of testicular cancer doubled over the last 30 years “in the majority of industrialized countries in North America, Europe and Oceania.”[ix] A review of multiple studies entitled “Are Male Reproductive Disorders a Common Entity?” found evidence for “high and possibly increasing frequencies of undescended testis and hypospadias” (a birth defect of the urethra in the male that involves an abnormally placed urinary opening) as well.[x]

So, what have Western societies been doing since the 1960’s that could be negatively effecting male reproductive health?

“Reproductive health” in common use refers to females and abortions.

It’s the down side of promiscuity for men. They get funk that messes them up.

A frequently voiced hypotheses is that estrogen from birth control pills is now endemic in the water supply and is affecting men. I have no idea whether that's true. But if we were talking about an adverse impact on a subspecies of mosquitoes or a variety of toxic pond scum in backwater marshes, the mere suggestion would be enough to trigger immediate regulatory scrutiny and probably emergency injunctions from activist judges.

So I await with interest an emergency order banning the sale of birth control pills in the U.S. until the scientific issue is resolved.

It’s a temperature thing. If you wear
briefs instead of boxers, the boys get too hot
and have no where to go for fixing it.

Low sperm count is unrelated to abortion.

BCOs. And, yes, if it were a subspecies of lizards in the swamps of some backwater country we’d be witnessing in emergency congressional hearings granting billions to the cause and some chemical company OOs would be perp walked to the Martha Stewart’s wing of Sing Sing not NOT if it involved Birth Control Pills- The Holy Grail of all that grants power and money to democrat-republican-bezos-soros-Gates-bushclintonobozo LLC

Do not touch BCPs

But it’s the BCPs

“Too many XYs are ordering venti skinny caramel latte with soy and a whisper of cinnamon at Starbucks.”

I always figured that was a symptom, not a cause.

Ibuprofen was discovered in 1961 by Stewart Adams and initially marketed as Brufen. It is available under a number of trade names, including Advil and Motrin. It was first marketed in 1969 in the United Kingdom and in the United States in 1974.

Now you know the rest of the story....

Online porn makes them chronic masturbaters.

The evidence suggests that that actually helps prevent prostate cancer, not cause it. So, some good news there.

One word: soy

As much as I love the term soyboy, and find it hilarious and will continue to use it, there is no evidence that soy is a health problem at all.
