Moscow Belittles D-Day Significance [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 9 June 2019 | John Semmens

Posted on 06/07/2019 8:38:56 PM PDT by John Semmens

Miffed by the attention being paid to the heroes of the 1944 Allied sea-borne assault on Nazi-held France, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the D-Day event "relatively insignificant in the broader context of World War II and its aftermath."

"The puny efforts of the West pale in comparison with the absolutely essential role played by Russia in the conflict," Zakharova asserted. "First, let's not forget that there wouldn't have been a World War II if Russia had not joined with Germany to get the ball rolling. Their non-aggression pact was key to enabling Hitler to initiate hostilities."

"Second, the West cruelly overlooks the treachery of the Nazis' unprovoked violation of the pact by their June 1941 invasion of Russia," she continued. "It took the West three years to open the second front—during which time the Russian people experienced the unspeakable horrors of Nazi atrocities that ultimately claimed millions of civilian lives. The West congratulates itself for generously supplying weapons and supplies to our armies, but was niggardly in bearing a fair share of the blood shed in the battle to defeat Hitler's minions."

"Third, the West's refusal to acknowledge the conquests of the Red Army in central Europe while their forces barely made it into Germany by war's end rebuts their claim to have liberated Europe," Zakharova said. "We got to keep the territories ceded to us by Hitler in the 1939 pact. We also were able to install puppet governments in Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, and Yugoslavia."

"Finally, though the Soviet Union itself is no more, the ideals of socialism live on and have taken root even in the United States," she pointed out. "Right now, socialism has become the dominant ideology of America's Democratic Party. Two dozen socialist candidates are vying for the nomination to take on the universally unpopular Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. Clearly, our ideals and our gains have made the most headway during the course of World War II and the years since."

In related news, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren contends that "global climate change is a bigger challenge than World War II. Even if we had lost the war, life would still have gone on. Human rights may have taken a hit in a world dominated by Nazi Germany, but the human race—except for some isolated and tiny ethnic groups—would have survived. The same cannot be said of the threat posed by climate change. All of humanity will be forced to suffer the insidiously slow encroachment of rising temperatures and sea levels. Meanwhile, governments hampered by the need to persuade ignorant and indifferent voters to adopt the severe measures required to combat climate change will fail to act in time. Our only chance is to elect a person of vision willing to unilaterally implement the harsh regulations needed to avert this calamity. I am that person of vision."

Russia didn’t play any role in WWII. The USSR did, but was subsequently defeated by Ronald Reagan and the United States.

Let’s see, first they sided with the Nazis, then the NAZI’s double crossed the Commies , then the Commies beg us for armor and weapons and supply’s. Closest these idiots got to a D-day was the battle of Stalingrad.....and even then they shot thier own troops when they tried to fall back. Thank goodness we had a crippled democrap as President who liked Stalin. If it were Trump, he would have listened to Patton and attack Russia.

Commies and Nazis have always been two sides of the same coin

Stalin signed an ALLIANCE with Hitler.

A little-known codicil to the Molotov-Ribbentrop Non-Aggression Pact was a map carving up ALL of Europe between them, in case Hitler won.

It was because of the MRNAP that Stalin took the Baltics and launched himself on a war on Finland which turned out in a very unexpected way.

The US was NEVER an ally of Adolf Hitler.

Even so, we provided them with over 70% of all the trucks they used and nearly all their ammo —the stupidest thing we ever did.

Why does that B-29 have that big star on the tail...?

Cuz it's a Tupolev Tu-4.

Cuz one time one of our B-29's had to emergency land in the territory of our "ALLY", the USSR. So they took it all apart and copied it --copied every last part of it.

But speedily they repatriated the crew, right..?

No, they basically threw them in prison. It took years for them to get back.

Russia lost 27 million people in the war ( at least 10 million military) and killed over a million nazis on the Eastern Front.

Had it not been for Russia fighting against a German war of extermination, pulling the nazis into the interior of Russia and defeating them at the cost of millions killed by war and starvation, there might have been no D Day.
We never in our history can imagine what the Russians have endured nor how it has affected them.

Putin had more creds to be at that D Day ceremony than did Merkel.

And don’t forget that the United States was simultaneously fighting a war in the Pacific Ocean. A war in which the Soviet Union was only active for about one week.

So?

If they had not given Hitler support he never would have had the power to start the war.

And if they had not been so stupid as to kill off their generals they might have had military leadership worthy of the name. Or maybe not.

pulling the nazis into the interior of Russia and defeating them at the cost of millions killed by war and starvation,

Good grief Charlie Brown you make it sound like they were heroically throwing themselves on a grenade. The starvation started long before their ally attacked them. We kept more from dying by sending them food. Probably a mistake come to think of it.

A country that kills off all of their farmers should starve. It might provoke a bit of thought as to what the heck they are doing.

Dont forget how the commies under stalin had destroyed a good part of the russian military’s officers in their purges - the people who actually knew how to fight wars. They then imposed commissars to herd the unfortunate russian soldiers towards the enemy with disastrous results. Only the incompetance of Hitler and the unfortunate winter weather (worst in 50 years )

So the HUGE losses taken by the russian military in that war were a direct result of the incompetence of the communist politicals running that country down.

As you quite aptly pointed out, the Russians had no choice. They could fight or literally be killed to the last man, woman and child. The Russians were a pack of wolves who fought not because they were looking to save the world, but because they did a deal with the Nazis, the other pack of wolves. Heck, the Nazis did not even really double-cross the Soviets. The Soviets had a plan to attack the Nazis once they were suitably softened up in their war with the French and the British. Stalin did not expect the Nazis to enjoy a quick victory in the West. That’s why the Soviet plan to attack Germany first never got off the ground - Stalin thought the Germans were still too strong to double-cross.

You are absolutely correct in the first half of your statement. I haven’t ever heard the second half (Stalin had a plan to attack the Germans after they were softened up), but given his nature, I have no doubt that it’s correct, whether documented or not (haven’t looked at your link yet). Good post.
