While in Verona, Italy on his last last ever world tour, Farewell Yellow Brick Road, Elton John told fans:
Im ashamed of my country for what it has done. Its torn people apart I am sick to death of politicians, especially British politicians.
I am sick to death of Brexit. I am a European. I am not a stupid, colonial, imperialist English idiot.
An odd comment, that, coming from Sir Elton John.
I guess his thinking has evolved since accepting knighthood a symbol of the British Empire - in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in 1998. At the time he said his knighthood was the icing on the cake and added: They don't come much bigger than this. Nor aristocratic. Accepting that symbol and I understand that as a benighted Leftist you are very much into symbolism of feudalism is in itself pretty, uh, imperialistic.
But never mind, we all know that consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, right? That allows you to adopt he mindset of a European billionaire, who spends very little time in merry old England these days as you own homes in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Nice France, London England, Venice Italy and Toronto, to call the little people in London who feel differently stupid, colonial, imperialist English idiots. How exquisitely elitist of you, you little twerp.
All I can say is that William Wallace would have been very disappointed with Eltons rather flippant attitude towards ceding British sovereignty to a European Union.
Then again, Braveheart was fighting against the English so maybe hed not object after all.
But thanks Elton, for explaining rather succinctly what it is about President Trump that many people find offensive: he too always votes firmly on the side of sovereignty and democracy. Apparently adhering to that quaint mindset makes you stupid, colonial and imperialist; three things elitists simply cant abide.

And to think I used to be a huge fan of this guy.

At least they havent pushed him off a high building for his homosexuality as they will do in a future Muslim England.
So was I. And then I turned 15.
How many of those stupid, colonialist, imperialists bought his music and spent their hard earned money for his concerts? (Bet he hasn't had good ticket sales in Cuba or North Korea.) This is what allowed him to become the arrogant, ingrate, elitist snob he is today.
Same thing goes for most of the Hollywood ilk .
Bye Elton.
Great talent check
Loves football check
But it was because you were born British that you rose to great heights.
That you have decided to thank other entities says everything!
Fag check.
The premise that the natural resources of a territory are rightfully the collective property of the population of the territory in which they are found is irrational and idiotic. England exported the know how to develop the resources of its colonies, that the colonies were too idiotic to do for themselves.
I think Keith Richard expressed it very well when he said that Lady Elton built an entire career on songs about dead blondes.
It's possible to like someone's music and ignore their politics.
I don't listen to much music anymore but I never chose my artists by their politics. Back when Elton John was popular, I wouldn't have even known his politics and didn't care. I liked his music.
I love Willie Nelson. But he's a liberal. So what am I supposed to do, ignore his music in favor of disliking his politics? No.
One doesn't need to pick their favorite musicians and their music by their politics. They should pick them for their music abilities and ignore their politics.
True, Elton, except for the 'idiot' part...................
I very much liked his Caribou album so many years ago. After that? Meh. I haven’t listened to anything of his...on purpose...for decades.
IOW, SHUT UP AND SING!......................
I’m a fan of Jackson Browne. Laid back rock. Leftist. Doesn’t matter. Rush likes Apple products. He gives them up and they go out of business? I think not. David Ceosby isa real winner.
A lot of my youthful energy was spent buying albums of people I now cannot stand..................
And then I turned 15.
I must be older than you. Madman Across The Water was an amazing album. Tumbleweed Connection, Honky Chateau were also outstanding works. Anything after Goodbye Yellow Brick Road sucked, tho.

Bill Barr?
Even saw him in concert in El Paso back in the mid-70s when I was stationed in New Mexico in the Air Force.
I did too. But it wasnt crazy Elton. It was him in a tux and tails, a grand piano, and a guy playing percussion. He played for 4 hours with an intermission. One of the top 5 concerts of my life.
