SI Swimsuit Issue Features First-Ever Baptist Model In Floor-Length Denim Skirt [ed] [satire]

In a controversial move, Sports Illustrated has unveiled photos of its first ever Baptist swimsuit model, pictured in a floor-length denim skirt, modest collared blouse, and no makeup or jewelry whatsoever, other than her purity ring.

The "hot" photoshoot includes pictures of the woman lying on the beach, rolling around in the water, and reading Passion and Purity on the beach in sexy poses, all while completely covered up.

Christians quickly praised the decision.

"We are glad SI finally sees the value of modesty," one leading evangelical said. "A woman mostly covered from head to toe is a great precedent to set, and we hope more models going forward will be dressed this modestly."

On a serious note: Baptists are often Democrats and leftists (”liberals”).

Kind of a broad brush considering voting patterns.

Most Baptists are in the south...the south is heavy red.

She looks pentacostal rather than Baptist.

This satirical piece is suggesting that Christians are hypocrites.

It ends with:

The goodwill the magazine earned among Christians evaporated, however, when the magazine also included a modestly dressed Muslim woman in the issue, and evangelical leaders quickly called on the magazine to feature a less modestly dressed woman in her place.

Actually, modesty is one thing Christian and Muslim women agree on. Once I even witnessed a conversation among evangelical Christian, devout Catholic, and Muslim women - they were talking with each other about dressing modestly at the beach.

But, while one group of women is derided for dressing modestly, the other is now celebrated for it. That's the point that this piece of satire misses.

I cannot agree. I have extensive experience with people of many denominations - in school and in ministry.

The Pentecostal women I have known, including classmates at a Non-Denom prep school, were into old-fashioned and overdone hairdos and makeup.

It is based on first-hand knowledge and experience. Are you aware of how many in the South have been Democrat since post-Civil War? Have you ever heard of so-called Blue Dog Democrats?

There is an old saying from the South, asked when a stranger came to town; the stereotypic question for him was supposed to be: “So, are you a Baptist or a Republican?”

In case you do not get it: Being a Baptist was considered a proxy for being a Democrat!

Have you ever been in ministry? I have. Have you had extensive dealings with persons from all major denominations? I have.

Actually, the invalid “broad brush” is yours, the one I am exposing: that Baptists are uniformly, consistently conservative - even the most conservative in all of Christendom. Many of them are more often thoughtlessly traditional than consciously conservative.

I did not say all; I said, many. In my original post, I said, often. I stand by that. You are the one promoting the false stereotype that Baptists are virtually always conservative.

I repeat: I have been in ministry, and have first-hand knowledge of this, going back almost fifty years. I am not getting this off some teevee map.

I doubt you can say the same.

Your statement: On a serious note: Baptists are often Democrats and leftists (”liberals”). Not sure what Baptists you're referring to.

As I stated before....you paint with a broad brush.

The south is heavy Baptist and votes conservative.

Does every Baptist vote conservative? No. No one ever said that but your statement inferred the majority of "Baptists are often Democrats and leftists (”liberals”)".

The voting patterns disagree with you.

Perhaps you're working/have worked in one of the blue counties. That may be tainting your view on this topic.

Have you ever been in ministry? I have.

Astounding!

Have you had extensive dealings with persons from all major denominations? I have.

Incredible!

I have been in ministry, and have first-hand knowledge of this, going back almost fifty years.

Amazing!

I doubt you can say the same.

You tell 'em, Yogi!

I’ve seen many groups like that on the Gulf coast beaches,, Siesta Key primarily.

They go for the classy beaches.

“On a serious note: Baptists are often Democrats and leftists (”liberals”).”

Moved all over the country in the military. Been a baptist for 45 years. There are a FEW liberal baptists. But there sure are not very many!

Have yet to meet a Baptist who thought Jimmy Carter had two brain cells. Most doubt he is a christian at all given his rejection of biblical authority to support homosexual marriage.

“fully eight-in-ten self-identified white, born-again/evangelical Christians say they voted for Trump, while just 16% voted for Clinton. Trump’s 65-percentage-point margin of victory among voters in this group – which includes self-described Protestants, as well as Catholics, Mormons and others – matched or exceeded the victory margins of George W. Bush in 2004, John McCain in 2008 and Mitt Romney in 2012.”

“Baptists are often Democrats and leftists (”liberals”).”

I’m a Baptist P.K. and was a Baptist seminary student. I was four days old when I first went to church. I know Baptists. I might have met two or three who are Democrat and/or leftist over the last 70 years (and I have to doubt their Christianity). Most of us believe you can’t be a Christian and be a Democrat considering their beliefs and the Rat platform.

We hate Jimmy Carter (Baptist), and Bill Clinton (Baptist).

Did you ever see Sports Illustrated photographers doing “fashion” spreads of them? Or wouldn't that have also promoted MSM’s treasured “diversity?”
