This is a great deal I found this week at Aldi. Only $1.99 per pound for this corned beef. In fact, I was surprised it happened so early since St. Patrick's Day is still 2 weeks away. I'm sure there will be other deals but why wait? Grab this one while there are still supplies available. In addition to enjoying this corned beef for dinner, I also heated up several slices of leftover corned beef along with eggs and had them for breakfast this morning.
Im more of a Trader Joes fan myself.
I’m not of fan of Aldi’s, TJ, Dollar stores, or corned beef. You can have the lot. Thanks.
I hate everybody and everything.
Except for Reese’s Peanut butter Cups....the miniature one they make for Halloween time.
That’s sad .. sorry for your condition.
The belly button only thing is a myth..
It’s not sad. It’s simple
Trader Joes is Aldi. ;-) Its a North South thing each owned by a different brother.

“The belly button only thing is a myth..”
Haha...I knew it was a stretch when I posted it. Just wanted to see what kind of response I’d get.
I wouldn’t call it a myth though. Beef plate (near the naval) is the traditional cut used for pastrami although brisket is often used to make pastrami in the US.
Belly button ONLY is a myth. You must have missed that word... ;-)
I said I knew it was a stretch. No, I didn’t miss the word.
Yeah they all have the same modus operendi: repackage goods bought on auction from large chains whose Use By dates have expired and give them new Use By dates (speculation - perhaps an extra dose of radiation to make them more “shelf stable”.
Lots of their stuff is also made overseas (aka China) by questionable methods and processes. ... which is why I would never shop in any of those stores.
Is there life after birth? What is what? How long is a rope??
I love corned beef, too. My only concern is that it has nitrites and nitrates as preservatives.
And Aldi is great BTW! Their organic spaghetti is awesome!
Very cheap milk and eggs, too. (No affiliation)
This way, you cover all bases at once! LOL! (Actually!)
That is a load of bull crap. I was the buyer for a food manufacturer and am expert at tasting the difference between stale and fresh. I can within a 1/2 percent tell you the FFA of any nut or oil from taste alone. With olive oils if not packed under vacuum or nitrogen I can tell you how many months ago it was pressed and which pressing it came from. You have some beef with Aldi or Germans in general (I will admit most are aholes) You are spreading a steaming pile of bovine dung. Both Aldi and TJ’s stuff is as fresh as the sell by date indicates.
Big Lots and Ollies do that, but do it openly. TJ and Aldis do not surreptitiously sell stale product.
Further afield, remember when frozen fish was good, and was sold in one pound rectangular pasteboard boxes? When thawed, it was like normal fish fillets. Now when you buy frozen fish, it’s all that “individual quick frozen” junk, that’s supposedly been quick frozen at sea, “to preserve its freshness” , but in fact, it’s full of water, so when it’s thawed, it’s waterlogged and pretty tasteless. We have a regional grocery store that sells a different variety of fresh, never frozen fish each week, that tastes almost like it just jumped out of the ocean.
I make my own corned beef. 10 days in the fridge, submerged in a solution of water, sodium nitrite (prague powder), and pickling spices, and out comes corned beef! Brisket works best, but you can use any piece of beef that’s not too thick. Delicious!
I do too...for a short time...mainly because it is a good way to get rid of a lot of the salt (and nitrites if you use them) after brining a brisket.
“We have a regional grocery store that sells a different variety of fresh, never frozen fish each week”
That’s hard to find around here. Even in stores like Whole Foods, their “fresh’ fish was flash frozen during delivery.
I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. Sounds like you’re talking about the frozen fish one finds in the freezer at the grocery store. Vacuum packed in plastic. I’ve not had any problems with those pre-packaged frozen filets I’ve been getting at Aldi’s. I expect to see some water when I thaw it. Aldi’s fish doesn’t seem overly watery. I find it most satisfactory.
I just pat the filets (tilapia and salmon) with a paper towel before popping them into the oven. They always come out tasty. I suppose your opinion of it depends a lot on what you’re used to.

Stale/Rancid = High FFA. Time Temp O2 and handling dependent.
