This is a great deal I found this week at Aldi. Only $1.99 per pound for this corned beef. In fact, I was surprised it happened so early since St. Patrick's Day is still 2 weeks away. I'm sure there will be other deals but why wait? Grab this one while there are still supplies available. In addition to enjoying this corned beef for dinner, I also heated up several slices of leftover corned beef along with eggs and had them for breakfast this morning.

I love Aldi! I usually go to the one on 10th Ave So. and Congress. I was there two days ago and looked at this great deal. I realize that all corned beef is high in sodium, but this brand, at 1000+ mg per serving, seems higher than most. But if you don’t have to watch your sodium, grab this deal!!!

Yesterday, my Aldi’s was out of the $1.99 corned beef, but had another cut of brisket for $3.99. They were also out of fresh fish, except for tilapia. I won’t eat tilapia.

This is the classic Irish recipe.......forget that canned stuff. Buy corned beef at meat counter.

Corned Beef and Cabbage

ING 3 pounds corned beef brisket with spice packet 10 small red potatoes
5 carrots in 3" pieces, large head cabbage in small wedges

METHOD Place corned beef in large pot; cover with water. Add spice packet. Cover; BTB;
now simmer 50 min per lb til tender.Add whole potatoes, carrots; cook tender. Add cabbage; cook 15 min.

FINAL Remove meat to platter; let rest 15 minutes.

SERVE Slice meat across the grain. Serve with mustard or horseradish.

CHEF'S TIP Place cooked vegetables in a covered server. Add cooking liquid (to keep moist before serving).

My husband makes our St. Patrick’s Day meal - meat, cabbage, carrot, potatoes, etc., all boiled together at different times, of course. It’s delicious, authentic and very similar to New England boiled dinner - a classic. We do it every year.

The discounted corned beef is typically about 40% fat. How does Aldi’s stack up, quality wise?

They put my corned beef in a can.

Canned corned beef and Spam used to be the cheap meats. Now you can get fresh cheaper half the time.

$2.99 is for flat cut.

Seafood items are the biggest deals this week.

Also chicken breasts. I buy and freeze.

I prefer to spend my money with a store that is USA owned. Supporting ALDI is supporting GERMANY! To each his own!

Is true.
There are quite a few things that have luxury prices that are mostly scrapes..half fat..and to much salt.
Hard salami comes to mind.

“You use corned beef for bbq?”

No. Brisket for BBQ. Brisket is also used to make corned beef. Just two of the different cooking processes for beef brisket.

“Spam used to be the cheap meats.”

Spam is like the state meat for Hawaii.

I doubt low sodium corned beef even exists. The corning process is acutally a brining process. It tenderizes, preserves and, best of all, adds flavor.

It must be the particular store because the 4 49cent ones I bought were all brown and nasty on the inside even though they were hard as rocks

I’m lazy too and always cook my corned beef brisket in the crock pot.

I buy avacados every week at Aldi and have never had a bad one. I don’t buy the ones in a bag, but the loose ones.

I wish I could find some decent ones here. Maybe it’s just my Aldi’s.

If one has the time and a Big Green Egg, it is worth the extra effort.
