Dicks serves as another warning for why people have been saying Get Woke Go Broke.
Ever since going political, their sales have been kind of limp.
Just as the now-infamous school shooting in Florida was beginning its transition from Horrific Crime against the Defenseless to Vehicle of the Lefts Political Agenda Dicks Sporting Goods made a decision.
Dicks Sporting Goods made the decision to blame the tool rather than the killer or the many layers of protection that WOULD have disqualified the young killer from owning firearms in the first place.
Did kissing the activists ring help or hurt their cause?
It really depends on what their goal was. If they were trying to embolden the Gun Control crowd, mission accomplished. They made possible the activist careers of the David Hoggs of the world. But if they were looking to build their brand? It wasnt such a great plan.
Their CEO, Edward Stack, made that decision. Whats happened since?
Sales dropped off, and theyre closing 35 stores in 18 states.
Back in March, Fortune went out if its way to say that it had nothing to do with their gun stance.
Only weeks after winning accolades from gun-control advocates for ending sales of assault rifles at its Field & Stream stores, Dicks posted a deeper-than-expected sales decline. Its stock sank the most in four months Tuesday in the wake of the quarterly report, which reflected struggles with excess inventory and deep discounting. Source: Fortune
But now, even the CEO is admitting the obvious. It WAS their gun sales that hurt them.
The CEO of Dicks Sporting Goods told investors in September that gun-purchasing restrictions the company imposed earlier this year have negatively affected its sales to a point where it may be forced to close its Field & Stream outlets.
In remarks made to the Goldman Sachs Retailing Conference and first reported by the Washington Free Beacon, CEO Edward Stack explained that the 3.9 percent decline in the companys sales during the third quarter could be partially attributed to its ban on the sale of assault-style rifles and on the sale of all firearms to customers under 21 years old both of which were implemented in the wake of the Parkland shooting in February.
In addition to the firearm-purchasing restrictions, Dicks also hired a number of Washington, D.C. lobbyists in May to advocate for more-stringent gun-control regulations. Taken together, the restrictions and the lobbying effort led the National Shooting Sports Foundation to expel Dicks and caused a number of major gun manufacturers to sever ties with the retailer developments that Stack admitted were detrimental to its third-quarter performance. Company names are being mentioned on this thread so I’ll mention another: Ammoman.
Search for that name on the internet to find good deals on brand-name ammo delivered to your door. The price they quote includes shipping.
I don’t have a financial interest in the recommendation.
Bankruptcy doesn’t matter...the CEO will get a big payout and will be invited to all the commie parties. Employees big losers!!!!
I have a Dick’s store nearby. Their store is just a showroom for me to try stuff on, or check attributes of a particular product, before...going online to purchase (from a different vendor).
I’ll miss them when they close.
When Dick’s made this announcement I predicted here (not a tough prediction) that Dick’s would struggle mightily because now they would have to rely primarily on soccer mom’s for their revenue.
Sure, the soccer mom might buy their kid a pair of cleats and a ball, and maybe pick up an article of clothing for themselves, but beyond that what have they got to bring in the traffic? The answer of course is nothing.
Dick’s now primarily sells high margin clothes, which often can be found elsewhere for a better price. And, they sell the occasional tennis racket or something. Gone is all that traffic from sportsmen and the outdoor types who have committed themselves to avoiding Dick’s, not passively as in casually not showing up, I mean actively committed to avoiding your store.
Wow, that’s really a great retailing strategy. Honestly, I cannot believe a class action lawsuit has yet to be filed against the CEO and the Board for their gross mismanagement and the destruction of the company’s name and reputation.
You are (sarcastically probably) assuming that there is an accepted and fixed definition of an assault rifle! The LEFT has never defined such and will never define such as it is always moving the goal posts to its own advantage. To me the proof of this was when a Fem LEFTist came out against the replica Hawkins black powder rifle as an assault rifle! The reason? The size of the 50 caliber slug!
You are so wrong. An assault rifle is any long gun that is black. Heck, everyone in the media knows that. Pretty much the same applies for an assault pistol.
BINGO!!
we knew this would happen when weve made some decisions on firearms in the past and weve had a pretty good idea of what these consequences were going to be. We felt that was absolutely the right thing to do. We would do the same thing again if we had a mulligan, so to speak, to do it again.
what a maroon.
Hey, know why you can still buy guns at Cabelas? Because they aren’t dicks...
Dick’s getting PR advice from the NFL???
Good one!
When all their executives have a convention, or meeting, do they call them Dickheads? /s
No at conventions is where theyll announce that all upper management will be given huge bonuses to you know make up for their stock holding loses. No s/
Leftist ass-lickers don't belong in business, period.
Too good
What?
