SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Peter Thiel is an optimist.
Standing before a room full of nearly 100 right-of-center student journalists on Friday night, he told the crowd “we are not on the losing side of history.”
But a “reformation” needs to happen first, the billionaire tech mogul and libertarian philanthropist said.
“Universities today are as corrupt as the Catholic Church of 500 years ago,” Thiel said.
During his speech, he spoke of an academia that has shut down debate, excommunicated conservative scholars, and insisted a college degree is the only way to “salvation,” that being a good job and solid future.
“The reformation is going to happen,” Thiel added, noting it won’t come from within, but from the “outside.”

This comment is almost totally without historical merit.
Henry VIII did not attack the Roman Catholic Church because the Church was corrupt but because he was. Henry attacked the Church because of his desire for an heir. Henry wanted to divorce or murder wives until he got a male heir.
The Pope finally saw Henry for what he was and denied his request for a divorce on contrived grounds. Henry in his syphilis addled mind could not accept this and decided to become the head of a Church of England who would force a Bishop of that church to grant him what he wanted.
Then in a fit of revenge Henry and his heirs forced upon the Bishops and Priest of Britain an oath of loyalty to the King of England and the new church on penalty of death. Eventually the Lords and commoners of Britain would also be forced to take this oath.
The Catholic Church may have been corrupt but Henry and his heirs far out stripped the Church in both corruption and brutality. Henry set in motion a purge of Catholics in Britain and Ireland that would count deaths in the millions.

I must admit to have never heard of him until I ran into this thread’s short article.
I like his optimism. The fact is, the majority is already getting A) cowed by threats or B) shrugging their shoulders with a "tolerant" "live and let live" response. The muscle behind it has already embraced untenable and absurd positions (as worded below, lost their sense of probity) and have been reduced to serfdom. Once the single payer/single party state is in place, the absurd views of the bully squadrons will be repudiated by the 1%, much to the relief of the vast majority, and those among the bullies who don't flip back (and there will be some) will be purged. I've not used the subjunctive mood in my screed, because I think it will happen. Thanks a little elbow grease.
Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. He's one of the very few people who could do it as a non-Democrat. Probably couldn't win as a Republican, but as an independent libertarian disgusted with Democrat incompetence, he could at least afford to get his message across and do some ballot harvesting of his own. :)
