‘Enrolled to fight in Mideast’, not defend borders? NYT roasted over anti-Trump cartoon of US troops

A New York Times editorial cartoon mocking US President Donald Trumps orders to send troops to the Mexican border instead of fighting wars in the Middle East has drawn ire from Americans calling it elitist and out of touch. The cartoon, published Friday, shows a line of US troops in desert camouflage uniforms being ordered by Trump to the border with Mexico. One of the soldiers leans over and whispers to another, I enrolled to fight in the Middle East
not in the midterms.

Defending America is what they enlisted for and that includes securing our borders. Elitists are stupid.

“Enrolled”?
It is obvious the “cartoonist never served in the military. You don’t “enroll” you enlist.
Second, you enlist to defend the United States where ever the Commander in Chief sends you.
Third I would think our military would rather be on our border defending our nation then in some far off h*llhole.

I didn’t realize that the NY Slimes approved of what they call Trump’s wars in the Middle East.

One ‘enrolls’ in college. One ‘enlists’ in the military. I’ve done both, and I can tell you there’s a slight difference in the two.

I see you picked up on that too, one enrolls in college, not the military.

The author apparently coined the term, “journocrat.”
Not bad.

It’s a mirror. She’s putting on lipstick. We all had them in our purses back then.

No its a small mirror that comes with a purse. She is putting on lipsticks after having a drink, probably alcoholic, which takes lipstick off. My late wife must have done this exact thing at a restaurant or bar about a hundred times.

Here, too, agreed. But there are two commonalities, as well: one, both are voluntary, and two, once you sign on the dotted line, Uncle Sam generally owns your ass until you fulfill your end of the agreement. Although I consider student loans the less noble of the two paths. In the here and now, going to a trade school is a wiser choice than going into hock for any of these collegiate group-think incubators.
