SEOUL - South Korean officials on Thursday began to dismantle the country's largest canine slaughterhouse complex, as animal rights activists push to end the custom of eating dog meat.
About one million dogs are eaten a year in South Korea, often as a summertime delicacy with the greasy red meat, invariably boiled for tenderness, believed to increase energy.

I have no idea how libs can claim be respectful of other cultures and enlightened cosmopolitans and at the same time bully others for the crime of having dietary preferences and sacred animals that are different from our dietary preferences and sacred animals.
WHAT! No more Gaegogi with my Kimchi! No way! Papa-san will be very upset!
Well, damn! No point in purchasing a K9 dinner gift card
for Barack and Michelle this year. I would still like
to send them out of the country,
I was too busy eating Bulgogi, barbeque chicken and bags of fried shrimps in the ‘ville and pizza and fried chicken in the NCO club. I was that rare private back then on separate rations.
I used to get a kick out of the South American woman on “Modern Family” referring to Omaha Steaks as Obama Steaks on the show.
That's just wrong. Unless they're making soup, of course. But otherwise, boiling meat renders it flavorless. What they should do is braise the meat, or smoke it at 225°F for 3 - 10 hours, depending on the cut, until it reaches an internal temperature of 195°.
I’ll be doggone!
It’s all an estimate of course, but if I had to guess, I’d say a hindquarters from a Saint Bernard might take 8-10 hours at 225° while the ribs of a chihuahua would be done in 90 minutes.
Again, it’s speculation and this is the first time I ever considered the logistics of cooking dog meat. But if anyone ever brings the subject up in conversation in the future, now I’m ready.
Well, they don’t call them “Chow hounds” for nothing.
I didn’t notice any dogs in Saigon and when we went into a restaurant for “pho” noodle soup with some meat in it, the meat barked. Could it have been telling us something?
One might suspect that the closest legit meat to a
dog would be goat except that goats are vegans and
dogs are largely carnivores.
Don’t like dog food’ but consider ‘Animal Rights’ campaigners’ as such.
Never eaten goat. I did once fill the freezer with a butchered Barbados lamb. We enjoyed many wonderful meals.
It's actually very good.
I made friends with some KATUSA's in '66 and was invited out to dinner at a no GI's restaurant and they ordered for me (I spoke maybe two or three words in Korean) .... had a great time and the meal was excellent .... which I was informed about the contents afterwards .... oh well ... it WAS tasty meat.
We eat bear meat and bears are omnivores, as we are. People in Africa eat monkeys and apes, too. I’ve eaten alligator on several occasions and they’re a carnivore.
I’m not passing judgment on eating carnivores. Hell,
fish are carnivores. I am merely citing a difference
between two species that I have heard others compare.

(/s) Okay, I’ll explain “diversity” just one more time. I want everyone in the world to think, act and believe exactly the way I think, act and believe but to look different from me. That’s diversity. Oh, and if somebody executes people for being gay or mutilates women’s genitals, or kills their daughters for embarrassing them...I’ll ignore that and bring more of them over here to live with you so you can learn tolerance. (Me? I live in a gated community and have the ugly Pilipino maid deal with the outside world I created for you. But me? I’m awesome and tolerant. Oh, my kids go to an all white school because I don’t want them getting their ass kicked by blacks.)

Actually, I think that on the zoological tree dogs are one step below bears. So the most similar meat that is sometimes eaten might be bear.
Goat is served in southern Spainsmall pieces on a skewerheavy on the garlic. Little song birds, too.
